Oracle CloudWorld 2022: partners, cloud infrastructure and health, in the center

Oracle is celebrating its event in Las Vegas Cloud World 2022, in which it is showing its news regarding its platforms, infrastructure and cloud. The company wanted to also highlight, however, the agreements they have with other companies and how they can help them move forward. This has been the common thread of the presentation that has opened the event, hand in hand with the Oracle CEO Safra Catz.

At the first in-person CloudWorld since the pandemic, Catz has welcomed several guests to talk about the impact of technology in different fields. The first has been the Nvidia CEO Jensen Huangwho spoke with Catz on stage about how data, Artificial Intelligence and the cloud have managed to accelerate innovation in fields such as health and life sciences.

Huang has also talked about the expansion of the agreement between Oracle and Nvidia, which aims to bring the adoption of Artificial Intelligence closer to companies.

This is a long-term commitment, which also seeks to bring the entire Nvidia accelerated computing stack, from GPUs to systems and software, to the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). Thus, Oracle is going to add tens of thousands more GPUs, with the A100 and the H100, which will arrive soon.

Safra Catz has pointed out that this agreement «will leverage the best of both companies’ expertise in helping clients in a variety of industries, from healthcare and manufacturing to telecommunications and financial services, overcome the challenges they face«.

For his part, Huang stressed that «Accelerated computing and Artificial Intelligence are key to addressing the rising costs of running a business. Companies are increasingly adopting Artificial Intelligence strategies to enable agile development and scalable deployment. Our agreement with Oracle will put Nvidia within the reach of thousands of companies«.

Huang has been followed by Deutsche Bank CTO Gordon Mackechnie, and the CTO of Johnson Controls, Diane Swartz, as well as directors of the toy company Melissa and Doug. All have highlighted the role of technology and data in driving their businesses forward.

Among the star guests at the presentation has also been Christian Horner, CEO of the Red Bull Formula 1 teaml, which has Oracle as one of its main sponsors. Horner is well aware of the importance of technology and data in advancing his team, and they have Oracle, one of his main sponsors, for support.

Larry Ellison: Multicloud Infrastructure and the Future of Healthcare

A few hours later, the Oracle CTO Larry Ellisonhas been the host of those attending the event in another presentation, which has begun by announcing that it has come to this event to speak above all about two topics: open multicloud infrastructure and the end-to-end industry applicationsa subject that has basically focused on the world of health.

First, he pointed out that “companies work with a variety of vendors and applications when building cloud infrastructure. That’s why technology providers are changing the way they act«.

By this, Ellison implies that service providers are deploying their infrastructure services across multiple clouds. Oracle is no exception, which is why your MySQL Heatwave database can now run on AWS, Oracle, and Azure.

But the Oracle CTO goes further. and he thinks it’s better to connect all the major clouds, so customers have more choice. Ellison is therefore committed to, in his own words, creating a «internet of clouds“, which is how he refers to multicloud options. To move forward in this direction, Oracle is working with Microsoft, a collaboration that, for him, has helped to advance this concept.

In addition, he has pointed out the importance of automating the end-to-end health-related ecosystem. Also, as the pandemic has shown us, a company cannot work on it alone. Technology companies, like Oracle, need the expertise of other health-focused companies and research centers to advance it.

Today, as Ellison points out, health services in the United States are provider-centric, with each hospital having its own information system and databases. This makes sharing patient records very difficult, and patient health data is spread across multiple databases.

For him, this is a problem, and he wants to change it. Not only that, but Oracle has set itself an ambitious goal: to develop a global public health analysis system, as well as a national one, for the United States. In this way, Ellison points out that «soon there will be a single point to go to find all your medical records«.

In addition, he also wants to develop a system that facilitates communication between patients, doctors and providers. In this sense, he has made reference to the v-safe platform, of the US government, which uses Oracle Autonomous Database. This platform has shown that patients are open to sharing some of their health data on a voluntary basis. Among the main data that this platform has provided is the fact that vaccinating pregnant women and children against COVID-19 is safe.

This Ellison goal is undoubtedly ambitious. That is why he has stressed that to achieve this they need to develop applications much faster than has been done so far: up to 10 times faster. Also specialized partners.

Among them are the University of Oxford, the CDC and several companies dedicated to the development of softwareand with which they are already working. Everything to achieve a platform where all health resources converge. A complicated objective, but Ellison has it so clear that he points out that «we are going to bankrupt western civilization unless we manage to offer better healthcare than the current one«. Specifically, it refers to making healthcare more affordable.

He also wonders why, if there is a global financial database, there can’t be a healthcare one, because “if you have an accident in another country, the hospital may know your financial situation, but not if you are allergic to penicillin«.

Finally, Larry Ellison referred to Cerner, a company that Oracle bought earlier this year, noting that they are already working with them to update patient health information. Everything points to Cerner can play a very prominent role within the companyjudging by how focused Oracle’s CTO seems to be on all things health and the future of his care.
