Predictable price increase of the iPad Pro 2022, how much will it be?

Both the recent history of Apple and the reports of various analysts suggest that this year we will see again two new iPad Pro. Two devices that, except for a capital surprise, will once again be of two different sizes. We do not know if 11 and 12.9 inches as before or a little more on account of reducing more the frames. Be that as it may, there seems to be enough indication that at least one of them will go up in price.

Precedents with the 2021 model

In 2021 we were not only surprised to see a chip like the M1 in tablets like the iPad Pro, but we also saw changes in prices. More specifically, it was the 12.9-inch model, which went from 1,099 euros in its 2018 and 2020 versions to 1,199 euros in 2021. A significant change that, beyond being seen as more or less justified, it is evident.

The reason for this increase would be none other than the miniLED panel that this model mounted, leaving the 11-inch model with its now classic IPS-LCD panel. However, if nothing goes wrong, this 2022 we will see this screen technology in the small model. And this is where the hypothesis comes in that also could increase 100 euros your starting price. This would make it start from 979 euros.

A priori and regardless of its foreseeable novelties, the 12.9-inch model would remain intact in this area. Therefore, the current 320 euros of difference between one and the other would be reduced to 220. Unless Apple raises some additional change in that large model, that difference would be solely due to size, both sharing everything else in specifications.

“Advantages” that Apple would obtain with this change

Although again we emphasize the justification of a price increase in exchange for improvements, it is clear that for the user it is always bad news that this increases. We do not know to what extent it would mean an increase in Apple’s profits with respect to the cost of its manufacture, but first it would serve them to differentiate your product range more.

Precisely the 11-inch iPad Pro has been largely relegated to the background since the arrival of the iPad Air 4, which incorporates a similar design with not very differential specifications beyond the processor. Taking into account that this ‘Air’ model also raised its price, the difference with the ‘Pro’ can be confusing.

However, if the 11-inch ‘Pro’ finally rises in price in 2022, the difference between the two tablets would already be considerable. It would help right away that just by looking at the prices it is already intuited that they are two different ranges, since now the doubt of buying an iPad Air or a Pro is too frequent.

In any case, it won’t be until March or April when we can confirm this data. The iPad Pro is expected to be one of Apple’s first products this year and historically they have always been those months in which they have been announced. Everything will depend on how the component crisis in the sector progresses and on whether the company finally raises a presentation event with more devices or presents them individually via a press release.
