PS5 Chassis C, what is special about this version of the console?

Something traditional in consoles is that they change, not in their external design, change internally. The PlayStation 5 console was launched in 2020, with major stock problems due to the pandemic, which have already been left behind. This year has come PS5 Chassis C, but, What particularity does this new console have?

Sony has released a new console, well, sort of. Externally, the PS5 is totally the same as the rest of the models, but internally it has changes. Specifically, the C Chasis has different internal changes focused on improving cooling and reducing costs.

We are going to explain how Chassis C differs from Chassis A and B of the PS5. But we anticipate something, at the power level there are no changes.

What is it and what differences does the C Chasis have from the PS5

This change does not refer to versions of the PS5 with a Blu-ray reader and the model without a reader. Involves an internal change from the console released in november 2020. The processor, memory or storage do not suffer the slightest change.

Change the chassis in this new console. The chassis is nothing more than the internal structure and distribution of components. Consoles have always evolved after their launch, seeking to improve profitability. They keep changing the position of the components, improving the cooling system or changing the materials.

The PS5 Chassis C changes three key elements: motherboard, cooling system and SSD cover. We know this thanks to youtuber Austin Evans, who has detected this “new” console that has been launched without advertising.

This console is marked PS5 Chassis C with the identifier of model CFI-1200. We can find it in MediaMarkt for 549 euros and in PcComponentes for 549 euros. Both stores highlight it in the product name or on the product page. We have looked on Amazon and no reference appears in the listed models.

The Chasis C has the particularity of reduce andno less than 200 grams the weight from the PS5. Remember that Chasis B already reduced the weight by 300 grams. So the console has lost 500 grams compared to the original model.

Changed the size of the motherboardwhat is more compact than in previous models. Also change the heat sinkwhat is smaller than in Chasis B, but more efficient.

He space to install a drive M.2 SSD has also been modified, improving protection. It also changes the power consumption, which is reduced a bit and makes it more efficient, with no impact on performance.

This is how models are identified

The console models are identified in the box, next to the barcode. Many web pages already specify what console model it is. As we have said, at Amazon we have not seen the information, but it is possible that it is already the new model.

We leave you below all the identifiers and the year of start of manufacture. Note that Sony does not announce these chassis changes, it simply launches them on the market, so it is impossible to know when they began to distribute them.
