PS5 resellers are having trouble selling their ‘outdated’ consoles

Speculation and scalping were undoubtedly two of the biggest issues that accompanied PS5 at its launch. Due to the low availability and high demand for said console, an important movement of speculators arose that constantly drained all the stock of PS5, and they took the opportunity to resell them later at double or even triple of its price.

This scenario also coincided with a time when the price of graphics cards was inflated, due to the high demand for them to be used in cryptocurrency mining equipment. It was a difficult moment and some played their cards so well that they made a lot of money by reselling those consoles at an astronomical price.

Over time, the situation has normalized, and today we can say that it is finally possible to buy a PS5 directly, in a store, and without any problem. Without going any further, at the time of writing this article I took a look at Amazon, and I found a PS5 with an optical drive and the game God of War Ragnarok on sale for 569 euros.

It is clear that reselling PS5 consoles at inflated prices no longer makes any sense, and this explains why speculators are having trouble clearing the stock of units they still have accumulated. Some are choosing sell them by lowering the price a bit, a movement that in the end is a clear attempt to minimize losses, although there are still people who are trying to sell it, second hand, more expensive than it would cost new. It’s absurd, but you know, if it strains, strains.

The fact is that, if we do an in-depth analysis of the current situation, it is not worth buying these consoles even if they are on sale, and for three main reasons. The first is that they are units of old models that became obsoleteRemember that since the arrival of PS5 at Sony they have released two revised and improved versions of said console, in fact the most recent it comes with an APU manufactured on the 6nm node.

The second reason is that these consoles may already have a considerable time since their purchase, and it is very likely that do not come with warranty. If it breaks you will not be able to claim anything, because you will not be backed by a guarantee. Finally, there is also the ethical issue, that is, these people were the ones who prevented you from buying a PS5 at its normal price at the time because they wanted to get rich by manipulating the market, so They don’t deserve you to buy anything from them.
