It has now been a few days since Orange customers began to receive messages from Orange upon their arrival in other countries warning them that they were benefiting from 5G. Now, through a press release, the French operator has confirmed the arrival of 5G roaming in several European countries for travelers.

Until now, only 4G was available abroad. The arrival of 5G is therefore good news for roaming in Europe. It should also be noted that the abolition of roaming charges has been extended until 2032, which allows users to continue calling, sending messages or surfing the Internet at no additional cost when they are in another European country, provided of course that their package allows it. The agreement also provides for ensuring identical quality and speed to Europeans outside their countries of origin.

In which countries is 5G roaming offered?

According to the Orange press release, 5G will be available roaming in 11 European countries for travelers. Here is the full list of countries concerned:

  • spain
  • germany
  • italy
  • the United Kingdom
  • Switzerland
  • Poland
  • austria
  • Romania
  • Bulgaria
  • Luxembourg
  • Latvia.

For the moment, only these 11 countries are concerned, but this is a provisional list. Indeed, Orange is currently entering into agreements with operators from other European countries, which will therefore be added later.

We imagine that other operators like Bouygues and SFR should also announce similar agreements in a few days which will allow their subscribers to continue surfing the Internet in 5G abroad. Some European operators are one step ahead of new communication technology. Indeed, the operator TIM recently obtained a speed of 5 Gb / s in 5G, an absolute record in Europe. In particular, the company has used both 3.7 GHz frequencies, which it has combined with millimeter waves of 26 GHz, which are not currently allocated in France.
