Sales of equipment for manufacturing semiconductors will reach a new record in 2022

The sales of equipment for the manufacture of semiconductors They plan to generate revenue in 2022 of 117,500 million of dollars, 14.7% more than in 2021, when they reached 102.5 billion dollars, according to SEMI. In addition, the forecasts of the sector for 2023 is that its sales will continue to rise, with revenues expected for the next year of 120.8 billion dollars.

All areas of semiconductor manufacturing equipment are going to contribute to this market expansion for this sector. Thus, the segment of wafer manufacturing equipment, made up of wafer process equipment, factory facilities and for masking and crosslinking, will expand by 15.4% to reach 101,000 million revenues. In 2023 it is expected to grow 3.2%, to 104.3 billion dollars.

In addition, thanks to the demand for both mature and next-generation process nodes, the manufacturing and logic segments will improve 20.6% this year, in which it will earn 55.2 billion dollars. In 2023, these revenues will rise 7.9% to 59.5 billion dollars. Both segments account for more than half of total wafer manufacturing equipment sales.

As for the demand for memory and storage, it continues to rise to the point of increasing investment in DRAM and NAND memory. Sales of the first of both types of memory have grown 8% to 17.1 billion dollars. Meanwhile, the NAND memory market is forecast to see revenue rise to $21.1 billion, up 6.8%. However, in 2023 revenue from component sales in these two areas is expected to decline by 7.7% and 2.4%.

After increasing its revenues by 86.5% in 2021, the equipment and packaging segment is forecast to grow by 8.2% in 2022, to 7.8 billion dollars in 2022. In 2023 it will decrease by 0.5% to $7.7 billion. On the other hand, the semiconductor test equipment market will grow by 12.1% to 8.8 billion dollars in 2022, and another 0.4% in 2023. All thanks to the demand caused by high-performance computing.

Ajit Manocha, CEO and President of SEMIhas highlighted that «In line with the semiconductor industry’s determined drive to increase and upgrade capacity, the wafer manufacturing equipment segment is on track to surpass $100 billion in revenue for the first time in 2022. Sustained trends across a wide range of markets, coupled with strong investments in digital infrastructure, are driving another record year«.
