Samsung presents the Galaxy Tab A8, its new mid-range tablet

Samsung has announced the launch of the Galaxy Tab A8, the next generation of its series of mid-range tablets which will arrive this month with a faster processor, more memory and storage, Dolby Atmos support and greater capacity for multitasking functions.

Samsung’s Tab A series is one of the most balanced electronic tablet series on the market. Designed for users looking good product quality, but at a moderate price, they are one step below the company’s high-end, the Galaxy Tab S series for which we also expect important news in the short term.

The new version practically maintains the size with a 10.5-inch multi-touch LCD panel, with a native WUXGA resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, and a 16:10 aspect ratio. Thin and light, its thickness is only 6.9 mm for a weight of 508 grams. Samsung says that its 2 GHz octa-core processor that it uses increases processing and graphics performance by 10% over the Galaxy Tab A7, although it has not cited the specific SoC.

You can equip up to 4 Gbytes of RAM and 128 Gbytes for internal storage expandable with 1 Tbyte microSD cards. It has a USB 2.0 type C port, 3.5 mm audio jack, four speakers with Dolby Atmos support and dual cameras, 5MP front and 8 megapixel rear with automatic focus.

The Galaxy Tab A8 has a 7,040 mAh battery and support for fast charging of 15W. It supports Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0, and you will be able to access 4G LTE mobile broadband networks in select markets. In addition to the usual sensors, accelerometer, compass, gyroscope or light, they will have facial recognition with Samsung Knox for security.

Samsung’s new tablet offering is particularly attractive to consumers who already own a Galaxy smartphone, as content can be quickly copied between the two devices, pop-up support or drag-and-split to open a second browser window by tapping and dragging a link on the side of the screen. Samsung notes that these software features are ideal for students and others who they plan to use it for more than basic entertainment.

The user may, for example, use these functions to participate in a video chat while browsing the Internet, write notes or other activities. The model is also equipped with parental control functions, including snapshots of activities, for parents who plan to give the device to the very young or allow its use.

Versions and availability

Samsung will offer three memory / storage configurations for this tablet:

  • 3GB / 32GB
  • 4GB / 64GB
  • 4GB / 128GB

It will ship with Android 11 pre-installed (upgradeable to Android 12) and will be available in gray, silver and gold color options. Samsung will market various covers for the tablet and a free 2-month subscription to YouTube Premium. It will be available later this month in Europe and in January in the United States. No sale price has been provided, but they should be content for access by the bulk of consumers looking for a quality tablet for the mid-range.
