Samsung wants to bring its TV Plus app to TVs from other brands

Samsung is reportedly in talks to bring its TV Plus app to televisions from other brands. One of the brands with which Samsung is said to have started discussions is TCL. The TV Plus app is an ad-supported free channel package. The offer has 1800 channels, of which 500 were added only in 2022. Today TV Plus is only available on Samsung televisions.

But Samsung’s idea is to aggregate this offer and make it easier to access thanks to a search engine and a thematic classification. This app identifies 1800 channels broadcast worldwide.

But, obviously, not all of them are accessible everywhere. In France, you have a hundred, only. But they cover the main themes (sport, cinema, series, news, etc.). Among the channels available in France, you with Euronews, Figaro Live, Reuters, ADN, MTV Classics, BBC Drama, Télévisa TeleNovelas, Xilam TV, Luxe TV, L’Équipe Live, Vevo channels, Ciné Prime, Ciné Nanar, some channels from Rakuten TV and others from the Pluto TV package. The economic model is obviously advertising. This therefore comes in addition to DTT and SVOD offers such as Netflix, Disney + or Amazon Prime.

Indeed, Samsung would have started discussions with its competitors to preinstall the free bouquet on their future models. A brand is cited by the source of this leak: the Chinese manufacturer TCL.

TCL is not a small company. It represents 13.9% of television sales worldwide and ranks fourth worldwide (ahead of HiSense and behind Samsung, LG and Sony). Successfully signing an agreement with TCL would therefore be excellent news for Samsung. For two reasons. First, because it would further increase the number of potential consumers, the service being financed by advertising. Then, this agreement would allow Samsung to attract even more channels in this offer.
