Seeing Apple’s apparent technological dominance in the ARM spectrum, Qualcomm has the pressure on its shoulders to have to offer something really great through the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, its next top-of-the-range SoC. Although there are still a few months left before its official presentation, it seems that the aforementioned processor is going to deliver when it comes to improving performance while maintaining efficiency.
The latest information about the alleged capabilities of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 comes from Ice Universe, a well-known leaker. Here we find features that we already mentioned on previous occasions, such as the configuration of 1 + 5 + 2 cores instead of 1 + 2 + 2 + 3. If the rumors and leaks so far come true, the core configuration would be made up of one Cortex-X4 core, five Cortex-A720 cores and two Cortex-A520 cores. The integrated graphics processor would be an Adreno 750 which, according to the leaker, has been greatly improved.
Nothing really new so far, but Ice Universe has also mentioned the implementation of 10MB level 3 cache compared to the 8MB that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has and that in terms of efficiency will remain more or less the same level as the previous generation. Being able to improve performance without sacrificing efficiency is a very positive point, although for now it would be prudent to take this information with a grain of salt.

Apparently OnePlus is already internally testing a version or a prototype of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 to incorporate it into future generations of its smartphones and other top-of-the-range devices, while on the other hand it is expected to be present in at least some models of Samsung’s Galaxy S24 seriessince the South Korean giant has decided to try again with its own SoCs, quite possibly with an Exynos 2400 that will implement RDNA 3 graphics.
The first joint adventure of Samsung and AMD, with the Exynos 2200, did not meet the expectations generated, but the companies have decided to give themselves a second chance to see if this time they can stand up to Qualcomm and Apple, seeing that Samsung is not it pays to rely too heavily on Qualcomm.
In short, and waiting for what Samsung decides in the end, everything indicates that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will meet the expectations it is generating, but as long as the SoC has not been released and is tested by people or parties independent, it is best to take these data with caution.
