Spider-Man and the hidden face of monthly subscriptions

It will not be necessary to talk about the new subscription economy in which we live and which assails us daily in countless places. If we look at the phone screen, thousands of them appear at all hours to retouch photos, play games, edit videos, design memes… it doesn’t matter what we want to do. everything has a PRO version. And in video games we also have something similar, with its cons as in the case of spider-man.

Indefinite expiration date

We are not going to say that video game subscription services are not beneficial for players, who can enjoy hundreds of games for a really low price and, many of them, authentic novelties or jewels that once in a lifetime we must try, yes or Yeah. And the same thing happens to spider-manwhich is on PlayStation one of those wonders that you should not let go of anything in the world.

Until now, the Insomniac title was available within PlayStation Plus, both in its Extra and Premium mode and, if we are honest, nothing could make us think that it would not continue ad eternum, since the study is already part of the Sony framework and that it is one of the standard names of the platform since it came out five years ago for PS4.

But not, Sony has confirmed that on May 16 spider-man will no longer be available for subscribers to its service, so if you haven’t played it yet, you have time to do so or you’ll have to buy it next time. A task that confirms that these subscription plans still have some gaps that companies should correct. Or rather, polish.

And what is that PS Plus loophole?

We will not say anything about a game having to leave PlayStation Plus when the time comes because You can not imagine the mess of licenses, contracts and expiration dates of rights that these products usually carry, but if it must be so, what spider-man ends up leaving Extra and Premium, the logical thing is that they put it clearly in view in the description of the page in PlayStation Store, so that we can make a mental scheme of which game to prioritize based on that expiration.

And it is that players do not usually have this information at hand and it would be especially useful to know it, to prioritize a novelty over a title that leaves the service and vice versa. What does not seem acceptable is that we suddenly find ourselves with the news and that now, with barely a week before its elimination, we are in a hurry to play it and try to finish it. This is not how a game like this is enjoyed as it deserves.

Do not think that Sony is the only one that does not do these things. On the part of Microsoft and its Xbox Game Pass it is practically identicalexcept in what has to do with games first party that, except for enormous surprise, it does not seem that those of Phil Spencer are going to eliminate them in the short term. Even so, a simple expiration date, a notice that the game will end up running in one, two or three years, is enough for us to organize ourselves and not lose the opportunity to play before, in this case spider-mancost us money again.
