The Community of Madrid needs qualified professionals in eleven different sectors

2022 was a year of general employment growth -after the difficulties of 2020 and 2021- but the data for the last quarter of the year already show a much slower increase in job creation at the national level. Will this produce a new adjustment between the supply and demand of profiles in the labor market?

The truth is that even so there are sectors where the lack of qualified professionals (for training reasons, the flight of talent to other countries, due to the lack of attraction towards certain sectors with harsher working conditions, due to the lack of generational replacement, etc.) has been a trend in our labor market for years.

The Madrid’s community is no exception and in the region there are several sectors where recruiting candidates is especially arduous, which makes these profiles the ideal professionals for companies in the region and the ideal positions in which to train or retrain for candidates.

In this context, Adecco wants to show which sectors of activity are looking for candidates more intensely in each autonomy and presents it in its Adecco Report on the most demanded profiles.

These are the 13 sectors

First of all, we can talk about the strongest branches of the industry. When talking about a shortage of talent in the industrial sector, there are profiles that stand out above the rest, almost regardless of the branch of activity in which we look, and the vast majority are linked to the Vocational Training offices, standing out above all they, that of electromechanics. But warehouse waiters and specialized laborers are also in general demand.

In the case of industrial profiles in general, the lack of talent is caused by a mix between the few qualified and experienced professionals that exist, necessary so that the activity of the companies does not cease.

If we go down to specific branches of the industry, for example, in the Community of Madrid the food industry -which according to official sources generates 9.5% of Madrid’s industrial GDP and employs more than 150,000 people directly or indirectly-.

Logistics and transport It is also a very prominent sector within the Madrid industry (represents 80% of the national turnover in this area according to ICEX). Here the profiles that are most lacking at the moment are logistics operators handling machinery, drivers, warehouse waiters and, of course, forklift drivers with an official license.

Closely linked to a part of logistics are the branches of distribution and retail, industries that are also key in the community. In this case, the profiles that are frequently sought are shop assistants (in some cases with languages for the luxury sector of the capital) and promoters.

And in recent years, also linked to logistics and delivery tasks, the explosion of the e-commerce brought the development of the so-called last mile (the final phase in the delivery of products). In this (no longer so) emerging sector, urban mobility, delivery men and drivers are needed.

Another sector that systematically seeks personnel in the Community of Madrid is the healing. The health emergency situation and the saturation of primary care centers in the last three years have exacerbated the shortage of all kinds of professionals in this field, from nurses to primary care doctors and laboratory technicians.

For his part, he banking sectorafter a few years of employment contraction due to mergers and closures of physical offices, is demanding new staff, specifically, mortgage originators and also analysts.

It is also necessary to point out that the sector has no less difficulties when it comes to recruiting talent. technological. According to Eurostat, the Community of Madrid is the second region in Europe in number of jobs related to technology with more than 236,000 jobs.

In this sector there is a fundamental shortage of figures such as cybersecurity specialists, cloud architects, data analysts, profiles related to Artificial Intelligence, software developers and also web programmers. Although in general, any IT profile finds an easy job in companies located in the region.

on the side of contact center sector, Madrid is the autonomous region that gives the most work to professionals in this area- it is in continuous search for telemarketers for telephone sales. In this sector, the weight of part-time contracts and shift work makes it difficult to hire stable staff and raises staff turnover to almost 40%.

Likewise, the sales area You have difficulties hiring salespeople with experience and/or knowledge of languages. It is precisely the profession for which the most vacancies were published in the Community of Madrid during the past year, according to the Adecco Infoempleo Report on Job Supply and Demand in Spain.

Next, special mention deserves the hostelry. This is a sector where the lack of qualified personnel was already chronic years ago, and the last health crisis (with its prolonged ERTES and layoffs) ended up causing a talent drain from hotel staff to other sectors.

This is how waiters are needed (floor, room, assistants…), kitchen helpers and cooks on a regular basis, although any type of profile within the sector has a place in the Madrid job market.

Another sector that is looking for labor in our community is the airport. Adolfo Suarez-Madrid Barajas is the fifth airport in Europe by volume of passengers (more than 50 million in 2022). More than 40% of the employment that is generated in our country around this industry is done in Madrid. And right now the profile that companies in the sector are looking for the most are flight attendants.

Lastly, for services there is a shortage office structure profiles: secretaries, administrators, administrative assistants with and without languages, etc.
