The new PlayStation for PS5 is more a Wii U than a Steam Deck

Playstation Project Q

PlayStation announced yesterday at its PlayStation Showcase a new device of which we had already heard before. This is Project Q, a device with a screen that is designed to take advantage of remote play, and that aims to fill a gap in the PlayStation ecosystem. But is it the device we’ve been waiting for?

A DualSense with an integrated screen

As the previous leaks had anticipated, Project Q It is a device to enjoy streaming games whose appearance is that of a DualSense split in half to which they have placed a 8 inch screen in the middle. So far everything is great, since it can be a very interesting device to continue playing the games on your PS5 from another room, however, at first it seems that the device is missing “something else”. And we do not know if it is because we do not know all its official characteristics.

It seems that the device only has connection Wifi, and the idea is that it streams the games you have installed on your PS5 (mandatory requirement). At the moment Sony has not commented on cloud gaming, but taking into account that the company continues to reinforce this aspect, we do not rule out that Project Q is the reference device for playing in the PlayStation cloud.

A function that already exists

The main problem that we see is that the function of playing in streaming already exists today, and it is possible thanks to the remote play functionavailable on Windows, Mac, Android and iOS, and also available from the Steam Deck with the Chiaki application, as we explain in our tutorial.

This means that making your own Project Q is quite simple today, and the only advantage we would see would be having the official DualSense controller, with adaptive triggers and the special vibration of the controller. That’s why we think we’re missing something. Sony must be keeping an ace up its sleeve, and everything indicates that the key could be in the game in the cloud.

The price of the product will also have to be decisive, since with consoles at 400 euros, if Project Q is priced too high, it would not make sense to buy a controller with a screen when for little more you could buy a fully functional team with many more functions.

When can it be purchased?

At the moment the device continues to maintain a veil of unknowns. Sony will offer more details of Project Q in the coming months, so we imagine that it will be a product by the end of the year, coinciding with the Christmas period.
