the start of production of the Cybertruck is constantly postponed, here’s why

According to an internal report from Tesla, the development of the Cybertruck would have been greatly slowed down by major mechanical and design problems. A delay which explains the multiple postponements of production of the highly anticipated electric utility vehicle of the American company.

On January 26, 2022, Elon Musk tweeted: “I drove the latest Cybertruck prototype. It’s awesome ! “. No doubt he had not received or read the internal report shared the day before by Tesla engineers. The latter mentioned the “basic problems” encountered by the pre-production model of the Cybertruck in the areas of “suspension, body sealing, sound level, handling and braking”.

This report, and other electric car maker documents were released to the general public in what is now called the “Tesla Files”. Of course, none of these problems are insurmountable for a company like Tesla. That said, in the eyes of an automotive expert, the challenges faced by the company’s engineers are more or less the same for all manufacturers. “I’m amazed that it’s a problem for them,” he adds.

The development of the Cybertruck is slowed down by a weight problem

In the report published by the newspaper Handelsblatt, the engineers mention a size problem that is unique to the Cybertruck : its bodywork, or rather its ability to resist torsion. According Wired, “in bends, if the torsional stiffness is too low, the bodywork yields. If it is too big, it is difficult to turn and the car tends to understeer”. According to another expert interviewed by the American site, “it’s also a big problem, because to solve it, you have to add weight and this compromises the design of the vehicle “.

We suspect that designing and marketing a vehicle as innovative in its design as the Cybertruck is not easy. But regardless of the progress of the development of the most anticipated utility in the world, Tesla must start production as soon as possible. The number of reservations for Tesla’s electric pickup is rumored to be 1.5 million.
