TweetDeck becomes exclusive to paid users

Bad news doesn’t stop on Twitter. Yesterday we told you how Elon Musk made the decision to limit the reading of tweets, blocking access to those who are not authenticated and allowing only a very limited number of messages to be read, unless we are Blue subscribers. But the restrictions do not end here, and it is that, today, the Tesla magnate has made another decision that, without a doubt, will give a lot to talk about.

At first, third-party Twitter clients worked great. These could make unlimited use of the API to improve the user experience when browsing the social network. Since the launch of API v2, little by little this experience has been degraded until there came a time when many decided to close since, given the established limits, these clients were no longer useful. Now with the new payment API of Elon Musk, the few clients that were still working have closed completely, leaving only one: TweetDeck.

Goodbye, TweetDeck

TweetDeck is it was one of the best programs for reading Twitter. This has always worked without problems, among other things, because in 2011 the blue bird took over this client. Since then, this has been the preferred client for all users who wanted to get the most out of the social network. However, since the advent of the new daily limits, this client has stopped working as it should.

Twitter Clients

Actually, as several workers have confirmed, although that is the exclusion that Twitter has given, the problems with the old TweetDeck are due to the fact that the company has removed the old legacy APIs, APIs on which the “Legacy” version of this depended. customer. It has nothing to do with tweet limits.

The official Twitter support account has warned of the problems with the new version, and recommends a series of steps to solve them. The main one is switch to the new version of TweetDeck, migrating the data from the old client to the new one. This new client has been in development for two years and, although it is still in the experimental phase, it is going to become the recommended version of the program for everyone.

We have just launched a new, improved version of TweetDeck. All users can continue to access their saved searches & workflows via https://t.co/2WwL3hNVR2 by selecting “Try the new TweetDeck” in the bottom left menu.

At first, all good. However, at the end of that message we find a line that tells us that, once moved to the new TweetDeck, we will only have 30 days to subscribe to Twitter Blue or, otherwise, we will not be able to continue using TweetDeck. In other words, this client has become another exclusive feature for paid users.

Threads, the new Meta Twitter

While Twitter does nothing more than put sticks in the spokes of its wheels, several rivals try to take advantage of the situation by launching their own alternatives. Leaving aside Mastodon, which there is nowhere to take it, there are two more options that seem very promising. The first one is BlueSky, an alternative to Twitter created by the original founder of the social network, which is currently in the testing phase, and on the other hand we have Threads, a promising alternative to Twitter, developed by Meta and as part of Instagram, which is probably one that will end up being successful.
