Twitter calls for the return of some laid-off workers

Although there are many news about Twitter that have occurred in recent days, without a doubt the most far-reaching has been that of the massive layoffs carried out by Elon Musk just a few days after having taken control of the social network . Some layoffs that, like almost all the movements of the billionaire during these chaotic 10 days, pursue a very specific goal: that the monetization of Twitter grow as much and as fast as possible. And it is that little by little, but inexorably, the date of the first payment of interest on the loans is approaching that he has asked to finance the operation. And, as we told you, they are no small feat, since they will amount to about 1,000 million dollars. Yes, only interest, without also contemplating the amortization of part of the debt.

This has given rise, as we already anticipated on Friday, to the dismissals being carried out… let’s say that in a little or not at all selective way. After hours of rumors about it, it was confirmed that entire departments have been laid off, as well as all (or the vast majority) of Twitter’s territorial representations in other regions, as would have happened in Spain. If someone was looking for a practical application of “killing flies with cannon fire”, this could be a good example.

The consequences of doing so they have not been waiting, even less if we take into account that, by acting in this way, Twitter could have violated the laws that regulate collective dismissals in the state of California, which would have already given rise to collective complaints against the company. Something that, of course, can make a good hole precisely in the accounts that Musk intended to clean up with such a drastic movement.

But the effects of the non-selective dismissals do not end there (which is not a small thing) and that is that, during the weekend and especially yesterday, Sunday, the rumor began to spread that Twitter was contacting some laid-off employees to ask them to come back. Information so surprising that, in the absence of any reliable source, it seemed more like a joke than anything else. But reality has already shown us, on many occasions, that it can surpass fiction, so confirmation has come from Bloomberg.

According to the sources cited in said publication, Twitter is contacting “dozens» of former workers who were informed of their dismissal last Friday. In some cases, it is claimed that they were dismissed by mistake, because the company intended to keep them on the payroll. In other cases, however, their dismissal would have been initially approved, although a posteriori. the company would have realized that such workers were needed for the social network and its future plans.

Thus, now Twitter would face, simultaneously, the collective lawsuit(s) that may be presented by both the workers fired last Friday and the previous board of directors, because as we told you at the time, the company raised them as justified dismissals to avoid the payment of the millionaire indemnities that would correspond to them. And, on the other hand, to the conditions that may be posed by the dismissed workers whom he now intends to recoversince with this movement Twitter has revealed that they are quite important for future plans.
