Twitter will implement a mechanism to prioritize responses

Since Elon Musk is in charge, Twitter has become the best combination of social network and reality show ever seen. The tycoon’s management has left the community divided and a few indifferent, but the latest measure he has announced should be an improvement, at least for those who subscribe to Twitter Blue.

The last measure announced by Elon Musk for Twitter consists of an improvement in the functioning of the responses on the social network. Some interpret it as another step in promoting and encouraging Twitter Blue, but what the owner literally said through his official account is the following:

Twitter will prioritize responses in the coming weeks by:

1. People you follow.
2. Verified accounts.
3. Unverified accounts.

Verified accounts are 1,000 times more difficult for armies of bots and trolls to manipulate.

There is great wisdom in the old saying “you get what you pay for”.

Leaving aside how the mechanism will work when implemented, it is true that Twitter is a somewhat haphazard ecosystem where spam bots and scammers run rampant, at least in relative terms, to their heart’s content. Apart from the inconvenience they cause for users, we must also take into account the damage they can cause, so putting a certain order in the answers can be a way to improve the quality of the experience offered by the social network, although we will see if these improvements end up being exclusive to Twitter Blue, something that does not sound improbable seeing the latest movements made by the company.

For those who have not fully understood the list published by Elon Musk, this is a order of priorities in which users will see the responses of those accounts they follow first, secondly the accounts verified through Twitter Blue and lastly those that are not verifiedthat is, all the others.

While Musk hasn’t been very explicit, the “you get what you pay for” phrase suggests that priority will only be available to Twitter Blue subscribers. If that is true, it would be a maneuver to give value to the subscription plan and therefore gain more users, especially seeing that advertising revenue fell by 40% as we learned last January.

We will see how this response priority mechanism works when push comes to shove, but it is clear that Twitter needs to boost its subscription plan to gain independence and improve its income.
