Ubisoft announces the remake of an iconic game!

Splinter Cell will be the new subject of a remake, which should be a turning point in the franchise initiated by Ubisoft.

Almost 20 years ago, the action game was released Splinter Cell, one of the many games from the universe of Tom Clancy. While Ubisoft is capitalizing more and more on its other franchises, such as Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell will also be entitled to its second hour of glory, thanks to a remake already ordered by the studio. Check out the game’s announcement in the video below.

No, you’re not dreaming, Sam Fisher will indeed make a triumphant return to consoles, in an adventure that is both nostalgic and in line with current innovation standards. In a blog post, Ubisoft explains that the machine is already on the way and that this remake will be the occasion for the biggest fans of Splinter Cell, but also for new players, to discover in the best possible way the game of infiltration which marked an entire generation.

Cutting-edge technology

To do this, Ubisoft uses its very recent Snowdrop game engine, also at work in future titles. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and the game Star wars from the studio, because no, Quantic Dream is not the only studio to want to enrich this legendary franchise. In terms of content, the developers explain:

While we’re in the early stages of development, we’re trying to make sure that the spirit of the early games remains intact, in all the aspects that gave the early Splinter Cell its identity. This is why, as we build the game from scratch, we will be updating it visually, as well as some design elements to meet the comfort and expectations of players, and we will keep the linearity of the original games.

Besides that, the developers specify that this remake of Splinter Cell will be the basis for future games of the license, and that a remake is better than a remaster in terms of innovation, but also to really meet the expectations of the players. We can therefore expect a remake of the highest level and several other games Splinter Cell afterwards.

For the moment, the project is still in its infancy, Ubisoft Toronto is still looking to recruit more developers to carry out this remake. No release date or window have therefore been announced, but we can always dream that it will be released in 2022, 20 years after the release of the first opus in 2002.
