Vivaldi for Android expands its customization and security options

If last week we echoed the release of Vivaldi 5.6 for PC and, things as they are, it was not an exciting release, in the usual line of the browser, Vivaldi 5.6 for Android Yes, it is to a greater extent, although the normal thing is that the news tends to arrive with less impetus to the mobile.

If the great novelty in the PC version was the integration with Vivaldi Social, the instance of Mastodon, in the mobile version it is also noticeable, but much less: a new icon on the Speed Dial is the only thing that is perceived in this regard. Surplus. You are also added as a new optional search engine.

The great novelty of Vivaldi 5.6 for Android, however, is the menu bar customization, whose preference is found in “Settings> General> Menu Settings (“it is about to translate, yes). There are three models to apply with a click and, if you want something different, you can customize it by dragging and dropping.

The menu bar, in case it needs to be pointed out, is the one that is displayed at the top of the application menu.

The good thing is that almost any of the dropdown options can be added there, so that if there is one that is used a lot, it is more accessible. There are the ones you would expect and many others (translate, computer view, capture page…), so very good.

Vivaldi 5.6 for Android also improves its security by providing the browser with support for hardware authentication keys. This is not a very popular feature among ordinary users, but if you have one of these devices that can be connected via the USB-C port, know that Vivaldi is compatible.

Other new features in Vivaldi 5.6 for Android include an option to automatically put focus and display the keyboard in the address bar when opening a new tab, keyboard accessibility improvements in the site identification process, some preferences have been reorganized, visual bookmarks can now be made smaller, hints have been moved to improve visibility (although they can be placed where they’ve always been, below the address bar)…

That, and a good number of fixes, as well as everything that comes with the base of Chromium 108, is what you will find in this new version of Vivaldi. It’s not bad at all.
