What cable do I need to connect Meta Quest 2 to my PC?

As you know, Meta –that is, Facebook– is one of the companies that has been betting the most on virtual reality for almost a decade, when Mark Zuckerberg’s people acquired Oculus to keep it all. Currently They keep launching viewers with the excuse of the metaverse but since we like to play, we have decided to get some Meta Quest 2 to connect them to the PC and enjoy the catalog that we have acquired in Steam VR.

By air… or better by cable

The fact is that the Meta Quest 2, although they are a wireless model that we can use regardless of having a PC at home -thanks to its Oculus operating system-, They have an option to use them connected to a computerin such a way that it is possible to access the game library of stores like Valve’s, where there are a multitude of releases focused exclusively on virtual reality.

To achieve this, we must download specific Meta software and install it to link the PC with the glasses through the wireless connection. It is what the North Americans call Air Link, and that just Here below you can see how it works. In principle it does not cause problems and it is fully functional, but it is true that depending on the connectivity we have, that signal in streaming may be interrupted or reduce its quality too much.

So the solution to size problem is simple: it is better to buy a cable to connect the glasses to the PC and, thus, being able to play what we want without suffering stoppages or small lag in response times. So we are going to get a cable for the Mata Quest 2, but what technical requirements must it meet to make it work perfectly?

Choose your cable well

If you want to connect the Meta Quest 2 to the computer through the USB-C port of the glasses, you must take several things into account. The first is that You will not need to spend the 100 euros that Meta asks for the official modelwhich is the best –without a doubt– because it is made with fiber optics that makes the connection perfect and without lagbut there are other much cheaper and equally functional alternatives.

The first thing to be clear about is that your PC must integrate USB ports –both A and C– 3.1 gen 2. Because? Well, because they are the ones that guarantee the highest transmission speeds (up to 5 Gbps) and are capable of not only exchanging information from the computer to the glasses, but also charging them to avoid having to take breaks to refill the batteries of Meta Quest 2.

So if your computer has a USB port of that type, or better, you can enjoy virtual reality without problems with a cable that is also made in a way that can transfer information at those speeds. So we leave you some alternatives right here below:
