what is it, release date and price

We all remember with special affection PSP and also PS Vita, the two laptops that Sony developed between 2004 and 2011 and that, for different reasons, they fell into oblivion and did not have continuity with other models. Now, surprisingly, the Japanese have presented Project Q, a bet that says a lot about what really worries them.

We cannot say that Project Q is going to be a video game console, but rather a device for streaming games in the cloud, which means that, finally, being able to enjoy our catalog of PlayStation Plus purchases or subscriptions is something that they consider decisive for the future of the brand, practically at the same level as its main competitorMicrosoft.

What is PlayStation Q?

Essentially, this new device would be 100% focused on connecting to the internet to play on its 8-inch touch screen all the content that we store in our PlayStation account, which includes not only our purchases installed on that PS5 that we have at home –thank you to the remote gaming application – but also to the entire PlayStation Plus catalog Extra and Premium classics from PSX, PS2, PSP, PS3, etc.

That 8-inch screen would have a native resolution of 1080p and obviously should have, not only Wi-Fi connectivity, but also an option to install a mobile data plan for those gaming moments when we are not within the range of action of a wireless network that offers us enough speed to play with good image and sound quality without lag.

Another of the details that we have been able to know thanks to the showcase of Sony held a few hours ago is that the remote controls will be a carbon copy of those we have in a DualSense from PS5. What’s more, Jim Ryan himself advanced that this gamepad will feel the same way as when we are playing with the console itself at home.

Release date and (possible) price

Although Sony did not reveal too many details at the event, they did offer several brushstrokes that are decisive in understanding Sony’s urgency to plug a hole that has widened in the last two years, as it is the need for players to be able to continue their games away from home and, in this case, from PS5 without waiting to have to return. Steam Deck, ASUS Rog Ally, the Nintendo Switch itself and the rumored new device clouds for Xbox Game Pass they have weighed a lot so that Project Q arrives before the end of 2023.

Project Q.

The date chosen by the Japanese would be November and the price will be around 250-300 euros. A cost that surely seems too high for a device that simply does streaming but that is in line with that of other models that are landing in stores with the same claims, as is the case with the Logitech G Cloud.

Do you think that this Project Q will be an alternative purchase for all those who miss the old glory of PSP (especially) and PS Vita? We’ll see, but one thing is clear: cloud gaming worries Sonyand hopes to gain a foothold in this new territory as soon as possible.
