However, there are video games where you really won’t notice a difference. There are cases in which simply having a bandwidth of 10-20 Mbps is going to be more than enough and a very high Internet rate is not needed. But those more demanding video games will require an optimal connection.
The category of the cable influences
Regardless of whether it is Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet, there are different category types of cable. This will also influence when playing online, since not everyone will support the same distance, for example. Therefore, it is convenient that you take this into account if, for example, you are going to connect a game console or a computer very far from the router, through the Ethernet cable.
From Cat 5E you will be able to reach 1 Gbps. Below that category, for example Cat 5, you will be limited to 100 Mbps. From category 6A you will be able to connect up to 100 meters away without signal problems. It is ideal if you need to connect a device from another room, far away, and you do not want problems playing online.
You can easily identify the type of cable. You just have to look at what is written on it. The category to which it corresponds will appear there and you will be able to see if it is the one you need to play online or if you need another superior one.
So which Ethernet cable to buy for gaming? In general, it will be enough that you have a Cat 5E cable. It is the one that will allow you to have 1 Gbps without problems. However, if you are going to connect from a greater distance to the router, ideally it should be Cat 6A at least and thus avoid problems.
