Wilier Triestina presents the Urta Hybrid, a carbon electric mountain bike as light as it is expensive

Wilier Triestina wins the award for the lightest electric mountain bike with an Urta Hybrid weighing in at 16 kg. This is a record in this category, but we are still far from non-electrified mountain bikes. Fortunately, this bike has other assets to claim.

Italian bicycle manufacturer Wilier breaks a new lightness record with the Urta Hybrid. This electric downcountry mountain bike is at ease on the road, on the track and on the mountain slopes. It only weighs 16 kg in its high-end version. With a price starting at 7000 €, it is certainly all-terrain, but it is not for all budgets, especially since the most demanding mountain bikers will probably find that its technical sheet is not the most enticing of the plateau.

The two most expensive models, the E357BH4M and E357GAXH (which cost €12,500 and €8,000 respectively) are equipped with carbon handlebars and stems as well, which makes them even lighter. The more affordable models have aluminum equipment. They are all equipped with a Rock Shox Sid fork with 120 mm travel. The rear shock, a Rock Shox Deluxe Ultimate Remote 210X55, allows you to slide down the slopes, like any good downcountry mountain bike.

The most expensive model weighs only 16 kg with a battery capacity of 430 Wh

All models include a Fazua Ride 60 engine. This young German company has a certain know-how in this area, since it was bought by Porsche this very summer. In terms of statistics, it deploys an honorable torque of 60 Nm, far from the 85 Nm offered by the Shimano EP8 and other Bosch Performance Line CX motors or the monstrous 160 Nm offered by the Jeep eBike.

According to the engine manufacturer, it doesn’t matter, the speed of electric mountain bikes being limited to 25 km/h in France, the sensations offered by the Urta Hybrid will be all the more natural. The Fazua Ride 60 offers a progressive or constant assistance system depending on the mode chosen from among the four offered. From lightest to strongest, Breeze and Rocket offer constant assistance, while River mode offers assistance proportional to pedaling power. A fourth mode has been added especially for mountain bikers.

The removable battery weighs 2.3 kg for a capacity of 430 kWh. According to the manufacturer, it will be possible to increase the autonomy of the Wilier Triestina Urta Hybrid by adding a battery in the frame of the bike to reach 640 kWh. The Venetian brand does not specify the real or theoretical autonomy of its products. It obviously depends on the style of driving and the terrain borrowed. In theory, it can be estimated that with a 640 kWh battery, the Wilier Triestina Urta Hybrid should travel between 80 and 120 km. The Wilier Triestina Urta Hybrid are available in three sizes, S, M and L, and in two colors: black and olive. Lightness and fluidity come at a high price, since the prices of the Wilier Triestina Urta Hybrid range from 7,000 to 12,500 €. We are a long way from the Zündapp Z801, the low-cost electric bike launched by Lidl at the start of the year.
