In the same broadcast held this Tuesday (19) to reveal the World of Warcraft: Dragonflight expansion, Blizzard took the opportunity to make official the arrival of Wrath of the Lich King Classic to legacy MMORPG servers.
“It’s exciting to revisit one of the most celebrated eras in Warcraft history with Wrath of the Lich King Classic,” said Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard Entertainment. “The original release of the expansion brought several improvements to the game, as well as a timeless villain and epic story.”
“We are careful to preserve the authentic Classic experience for anyone looking to relive Northrend’s glory days and to offer a re-enactment that is up to the mark and accessible to anyone embarking on this great adventure for the first time,” he explains.
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic
Originally released in 2008, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King is considered the pinnacle of the game, whether in number of players, expansion of canonical history of Warcraft and level of content offered to players.
The expansion focuses on the frozen continent of Northrend, where Arthas Menethil, already in the role of the evil Lich King (Lich King), plans to wake the dead, create a veritable army of abominations and dominate all of Azeroth.
In this return of the iconic World of Warcraft DLC, the community will once again be able to relive the progress of Horde and Alliance forces to stop the villain, brave classic dungeons and face unique challenges in some of the game’s most unforgettable raids – yes, we’re talking about you, Ulduar and Icecrown Citadel.
As with WoW Classic and The Burning Crusade Classic, all content offered by Wrath of the Lich King Classic is available at no additional cost to all players with an active subscription to the game. That is, unlike Dragonflight, the expansion does not require any extra payment.
Despite this, Blizzard has already revealed one of the game’s monetization systems: a new version of the character level boost, initially introduced at the launch of TBC Classic. The optional update – yet to be priced out – allows you to take a character directly to level 70.
What to Expect from Wrath of the Lich King Classic
In Wrath of the Lich King Classic, the community will be able to start their journey through Northrend from two different areas, the Borean Tundra or the Howling Fjord, learn a new profession and experience the dreaded Death Knights.
Blizzard even warns that it will be possible to create your Death Knight during the content update that precedes the release of Wrath of the Lich King Classic. In addition, the class will not have the same prerequisites as the original expansion – in which it was necessary to have a character of at least level 55 on the server.
Here are some of the highlights and new features coming with World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic:
