Adobe uses the works of its users to train its AI algorithms if they do not refuse to do so

Adobe automatically analyzes the content What do your users have? stored in your Creative Cloud services and uses them to train your Artificial Intelligence algorithms. He does it by default with everyone, unless they expressly indicate that they do not want him to do it. That is, so that Adobe does not use your work to train your AI, it is necessary to indicate that we do not want the company to do it.

The alarm about this has been raised by the Krita Foundation, an independent NGO of open source graphic software for artists. The organization has alerted about this company policy, noting that in the account configuration settings, in the section on personal data and privacy, Adobe indicates that it can “analyze your content using techniques such as machine learning to develop and improve your products and services«.

Users automatically allow Adobe access to their data unless they say they don’t want the company to do it. This has been the case since Adobe updated its regulations last August, which is included in its FAQ on content analysis. The new standard applies to images, audio, video, text and documents stored on its cloud servers. According to Adobe, the company does not review the content processed and/or stored locally, on its users’ devices.

Its managers point out that “When we analyze your content for product development and improvement purposes, the first thing we do is add your content to others, and then we use all the added content to train our algorithms, and therefore, to improve our products and services.«.

Therefore, Adobe’s latest content analytics policies allow the company to collect its own data sets for AI training without having to pull it off the Internet.

As a company spokesperson told The Register, at Adobe they give “customers complete control of their preferences and privacy settings. The policy under discussion is not new, and has been in place for a decade to help us improve our products for customers. To those who want their content to be left out of the analysis, we offer the option to do so. For Generative AI, Adobe does not use data stored in users’ Creative Cloud accounts to train its experimental Generative AI features. We are currently reviewing our policies to better define the use cases for Generative Artificial Intelligence«.
