If it’s been a year since Nintendo surprised us with the announcement of a new Super Mario Bros.including style and actors responsible for giving voice to the characters in their original English version, now we have a sample of what we will see next March 31, 2023scheduled date for the premiere.
The premiere of the new movie Super Mario Bros.In fact, it will mark the almost nailed 30th anniversary of that first horrific film starring Bob Hoskins in the role of Mario, John Leguizamo in the role of Luigi and Dennis Hopper in the role of Bowser Koopa in 1993. Legends say that, aware of the mess with which they had committed themselves, Hoskins and Leguizamo very often came with more than one extra drink to the shooting set.
But almost thirty years have passed since then and, thanks to technological evolution, the new film by Super Mario Bros. It will be everything we ever wanted wishing for a movie Super Mario Bros., of course. And there are things that have their place and that should be enough, as it may be in this case. But in Nintendo they are for the work of making cash and seeing how well Sonic has done… why not try it?
Well, they are going to try it big. This is how they presented this week in an exclusive Nintendo Direct this new audiovisual career of the mountebank plumber, official teaser included:
“Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (who collaborated on the animated series Teen Titans Go Y Teen Titans Go: The Movie) with a screenplay by Matthew Fogel (The LEGO Movie 2 and Minions: Rise of Gru), the film features an ensemble cast consisting of Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalo as Spike.
The film is produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto. SUPER MARIO BROS: THE MOVIE is co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo and will be distributed worldwide by Universal Pictures.”
So like it or not, Mario is going to star in a movie again And this time, yes, it looks good. Among other things, because there are characters like those from this particular Nintendo universe (although Donkey Kong and others will also be around) who, due to mere plasticity, can never be portrayed as well as in an animated film like the new Super Mario Bros..
The little that the trailer hints at promises and, except for that excessive bun face of Mario, although this is a personal appreciation with which perhaps not everyone agrees, everything seems to be in its place and in its proper tone. . Well, not everything, and the fact is that the first criticisms of some have blamed the mistake of Pratt’s dubbing, in comparison, of course, of Charles Martinet, despite the fact that hardly a couple of words are heard from him…
And what do you want me to tell you, but it sounded good to me -although it is true that Jack Black as Bowser is great-, I can’t imagine an entire movie with Martinet’s dick -which is perfect in games, but in dialogues head would explode – and… here in Spain and in many other places in the world, we will see it dubbed by dubbing professionalsso… I am not one bit worried about this aspect.
What the next arrival of the film by Super Mario Bros. is that depending on how well it goes, the same thing is planned to do the same with The Legend of Zeldawhich, by the way, lends itself more to this type of experiment and no better example than the last The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to illustrate it, because its artistic design could well have come from Studio Ghibli, but…
