AMD is lowering the quality of its graphics cards, so as not to raise prices?

AMD’s RDNA architecture has managed to fill the gaps in the company’s previous architectures. They have greatly improved computing power for gaming with a better price than the competition. Of course, with some performance limitations with respect to NVIDIA, being realistic.

They fail to compete with Ray Tracing, being below in performance, although this technology is not being widely used. In image scaling, AMD FSR is an interesting solution that does not require dedicated hardware. It is an advantage, but in the end, the result we get is inferior to DLSS.

Is AMD cutting back on graphics quality?

Some time ago some problems were reported in the AMD RX 7900 XTX graphics cards. The assembler models had an insufficient heatsink under heavy workload. The heatsink would be insufficient and this causes the graphics card to work at high temperatures.

Recently, AMD has released the Radeon Pro W7500 and Pro W7600 graphics. These professional solutions are based on the silicon Navi 33the same as uses in the RX 7600 for the gaming segment.

Igor’s Lab has tested one of the Radeon Pro W7600. During the tests, he has had black screen issues shortly after starting to use it. Initially they thought about software problems or the used DisplayPort dable. after investigatingThey have discovered that the problem would be in the heatsinkwhich would generate high working temperatures.

After discovering the problem, he has tried to solve it. They have replaced the thermal paste of the chip and the thermal paste of the memories has also been modified.

Because of this, the temperature went from 83ºC to 74ºC, que is a really brutal jump. Also under the maximum GPU temperature at one point, passing from 92ºC to 82ºC. The memory temperaturesgoing from 94ºC to 90ºC. Thanks to just changing the thermal paste, the black screens are over.

It seems that AMD would have used the famous thermal paste used by Intel in its processors. We already know the historical temperature problems of Intel’s chips.

We do not know, at the moment, if this would be something isolated or generalized. Given the data, it is probably something general with all products of this style. We also do not understand very well the reason for using low-quality thermal paste that still represents a 1 cent difference.

Adjustments to avoid raising prices

AMD RX 7000 Series graphics cards maintain the prices of the previous generation. This is a much applauded gesture, but the reality is that all the hardware has gone up. Even AMD processors have had a price increase.

At least it is curious that they have maintained prices at a time that seems unfeasible. The costs of transportation, manufacturing of the GPU and the rest of the components have risen. Only GDDR6 memories would have dropped in price during this period.
