ASUS Prime N100I-D, a mini ITX motherboard with Intel N100

The ASUS Prime N100I-D is a mini ITX format motherboard that is presented as a very interesting option for assembling very small PCs with a fully customized configuration. Its measurements are 170 x 170 mm, and comes with an integrated Intel N100 processor, on which a passive cooling system has been mounted.

We do not need to add a fan, since said processor has a TDP of only 6 watts, and its quad-core/four-thread configuration only scales up to 3.4 GHz in turbo mode. We will not have problems with the temperatures.

In the image we can see that the ASUS Prime N100I-D comes with a SODIMM slot, where we can mount a module of mDDR4 RAM memory up to 16 GB capacity at 3,200 MHz, and we also have an M.2 2280 connector compatible with the PCIe Gen x2 standard. The M.2 E-Key slot will allow us to install a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth network card, and we have a PCIe Gen3 x1 connector.

The GPU is a Intel UHD embedded solution with 24 execution units that comes in the CPU, and its performance is quite modest, but sufficient for basic tasks and playback of multimedia content. Regarding connectivity, the ASUS Prime N100I-D has:

  • 1xHDMI.
  • 1 x Display Port.
  • 1x VGA.
  • 1 x COM.
  • 1 x PS/2.
  • 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A.
  • 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A.
  • 2 x USB 2.0 Type-A.
  • 1 x Gigabit Ethernet.
  • Three 3.5mm jack connectors.

If we want to mount a small fan to improve CPU temperatures, we won’t have any problem, since the motherboard has a 4-pin fan connector located right next to the SODIMM slot. We do not have details about the sale price, but if this is not very high, it could be an option to take into account to build our own mini PC.
