A new TikTok challenge is all the rage right now in French colleges. The latter consists of creating a fake scar on the face, by pinching the skin very violently. Although relatively harmless, this practice is not without risk for its followers.
It’s been several years now since TikTok moved away from the content that made it famous to reach a wider audience. However, this does not prevent us from regularly seeing new challenges arise on the social network, some of which present a serious danger for those who make them. We remember in particular the terrible Kia Challenge, which caused the death of 4 teenage girls following a car accident.
In recent days, a new challenge has been talked about in the playgrounds. The “challenge scar”, or the “scar trend” is based on a simple principle. Of the hundreds of videos talking about it, many consist of explaining to viewers how to get a fake scar on your face. Concretely, it is a question of pinching the skin while turning the handle, until creating a bruise which can take several days to disappear.
On TikTok, college students play at getting scars
At first glance, nothing dramatic. The idea is simply to create a kind of scar on the face for a few days before it goes away on its own. Especially since in colleges, many students already report not being attracted to this challenge, that they know painful and relatively useless. Good for them: the latter is not necessarily without consequence.

“If you want to mark your cheek temporarily, the danger for these young people is to get a spider angioma that persists, and therefore to keep aesthetic sequelae”, warns dermatologist Marie Jourdan to our colleagues from Paris. Here again, spider angioma is nothing serioussince it is only small red spots on the skin.
But, as Marie Jourdan points out, some never leave. To get rid of it, you have to go through laser sessions, with the price for a session which can vary between 100 and 200 euros. We’re willing to bet parents won’t be thrilled to receive the bill.
