In the research carried out by the partnership between Trend Micro and the Ponemon Institute, cloud computing, for example, received a “high risk” score in Latin America, accompanied by three other infrastructure factors that most concern companies when it comes to security information: remote work and third-party applications. This concern highlights the period of the Covid-19 pandemic, which increased the attack surface and at the same time challenged companies to invest more in the cybersecurity of the organization.

In Latin America, CRI pointed out that companies located in this region are at greater risk of being invaded. According to the index, the location reached -0.20, while the world average was set at -0.04, a number already considered high risk.

Thus, 76% of them believe that they will suffer some invasion in the next 12 months: 25% would have said that it is “very likely”; among North American companies, this percentage jumped to 34%.

The study surveyed more than 3,400 CISOs and IT managers in Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North America. Among them, 84% said they had experienced one or more successful cyberattacks within a 12-month period; 35% admitted to having gone through the experience seven or more times.

Among the most worrisome threats, they highlighted ransomware, phishing and social engineering, and denial of service (DoS) attacks, which generate data breach or theft, cost external experts, damage equipment and cause customer churn.
