Did you know why a TV would fix itself if you hit it?

tele hit

Unless you are a very young person, I am sure that you have ever hit your TV or other electronic device, especially an old one, because by doing so you managed to solve several of the problems it could present.

However, why did this phenomenon occur? Coincidence or science? Let’s analyze and resolve these issues. It’s much simpler than it seems.

One hit and it’s solved?

If you have tried it, you will know that it is not a myth, but that it really works, and this is only due to the internal connectors of the board and the other components. Over time, humidity, high temperatures and other factors can cause their welds to move, even come off. A very basic example, although it is not exactly like that, is as if we used tape to hang a sheet of paper on the wall. With the passage of time, that zeal would gradually take off, losing its form and properties. What would you do in that case? You would solve it by hitting the zeal so that it would resume its position, right?

In this case something similar happens. These connectors lose their direct contact with the board and, therefore, the image stops displaying correctly, since there is no transfer of information and energy between those necessary. Something similar to what happens with those bad headphones that stop working because of one of them and you have to move the cable to get it to play sound again. In the case of the TV or a monitor, a blow is easier, since, except by opening it with a screwdriver, you cannot move anything from the outside.

A blow given at the exact point solves it, although as in the previous example of heat, it will take less time to separate again. Each time it will be sooner, until no matter how many blows you give the television or other device it will not be fixed.

Furthermore, this can produce exactly the opposite, that other points that were good end up separated, and, therefore, you would need more and more blows to do so.

It is something that can also be caused by high temperatures. Some MacBooks reported problems with the graphics card because they separated from the plate and had to be re-applied with thermal paste and solder.

welding

In short, a practical but temporary solution. So if this happens to you with a device, take it in for repair first, the longer it takes, the worse it will be.

Today it is more difficult for this to happen, and not because TVs use other types of connections, but because these are better, and the final quality of the product is higher. Also, do you see yourself watching a plasma TV? What is more scary than ruining it completely than those old tube ones, so robust?

And you, have you ever solved something like this? Or are you more patient and just called for them to come and fix it without touching anything? The truth is that I was one of the first. Luckily I haven’t needed to touch anything in a while.
