Dune: director Denis Villeneuve still points to the trilogy (and maybe something more)

We have long known that Denis Villeneuve, the director of Dunes: Part 1 (yes, now that part 2 has been announced we can call it that), he’s going to make a trilogy for the franchise. Now, however, with the arrival of Dune 2 in 2023 and the recent debut at the box office overseas of the first film, it seems that the Canadian director does not want to stop.

Denis Villeneuve, the director of Dune, returns to talk about the trilogy he intends to make

On the occasion of a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the director reiterated his interest in making “at least one trilogy” of the saga of novels written by Frank Herbert. That’s right … “at least” a trilogy.

“I’ve always imagined three films”, Villeneuve shared during the recent interview. “It’s not like I want to do a franchise, but this is Dune, and Dune is a huge story. To honor him, I think I would need at least three films. This would be the dream. Following Paul Atreides and his full arc would be a good thing. “

The director then added: “(Frank) Herbert wrote six books, and the more he wrote, the more psychedelic he got, so I don’t know how some of them could be adapted. One thing at a time. If I ever had the chance to do Dune: Part Two and Dune’s Messiah, I’d be lucky ”.

Warner Bros. boss Toby Emmerich also spoke about the Dune sequel saying: “Denis Villeneuve has made a film that is both visually stunning and emotionally transporting, as evidenced by its global critical and box office success… We are thrilled to continue this journey with Denis, his cast and crew, and our Legendary partners. , and we can’t wait to bring the next chapter of this epic tale to theaters in October 2023 ”.

What if Denis Villeneuve goes further? We already know of the existence and arrival of a TV series focused on Bene Gesserit and, considering the masterpiece that the film landed a few weeks ago in Italian cinemas, I don’t think I could get tired so easily of the work of this gifted writer and director.
