Face ID, the revolution of evolution
From launch in 2017, The Face ID of the iPhone has improved constantly, reducing its size, improving its technology and above all, it has been expanding in the rest of Apple devices such as the iPad pro. Its recognition capacity is beyond doubt and allows you to protect your iPhone in a unique way, several steps above the competition.
At its launch, Apple let the app developers such as WhatsApp or bank apps such as N26 develop control and security methods for their apps through Face ID. However, with the passage of time, it seems that Apple has completely changed its strategy and it is also going to contribute to the development of security within its own native apps.
Block apps with Face ID
As we said before, in this new version of iOS 16.4 we can block any application that you have on the iPhone so that, in the event that there is a person consulting your mobile, they cannot access certain functions or applications such as the Gallery app. The procedure is very simple, which consists of six steps which we are going to see next:
- Go to the Shortcuts app on your iPhone and tap on Automation below.
- In the top right, tap on the icon with a “+”.. and click on create personal automation.
- Find the app you want “block” and determine if you want to block it through the Face ID or Touch ID. Remember that devices like the iPhone 8 and iPhone SE are compatible with iOS 16.
- press okay and immediately afterwards, to next. After that, click on add action.
- Finally, click on next and deactivate the option of request confirmation.
- Press ok. The procedure would already be finished.
Other Face ID features
Once we have seen how we can block a Face ID app through the shortcuts app, let’s see other functions as the possibility of increase face unlock speed. Of course, this function can affect the device Security, so, it is best to keep the facial recognition time the time established by Apple. The steps are the following:
- Click on «Settings» on your iPhone.
- Choose “Screen and Brightness” and click on “Auto lock”.
- Choose the desired duration before the device is automatically locked.
Finally, we are going to see another function that is always good to know and it is the possibility of adding a second faces or profile when unlocking our iPhone with Face ID. This feature was also available on iPhones with Touch ID technology. To do it, follow the next steps:
- Click on «Settings» on your iPhone.
- Choose “Face ID and code”. Next, enter your password.
- Then, click on “Set Alternate Appearance”. Follow the instructions on the screen to scan and register a new appearance.
