He orders an RTX 4090 online, but discovers metal blocks in the box

A gamer has ignited social media after claiming on Reddit that he received metal blocks instead of his Nvidia RTX 4090 graphics card, which he had nevertheless ordered from a reputable site for nearly $2,000.

When you spend nearly $2000 on an RTX 4090 on the internet, you usually expect the graphics card to arrive quickly in pristine condition, but that’s not what happened to one Reddit user. After purchasing a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card from Newegg, u/NuclearInnardsBeep claims to have discovered something entirely different in the box.

Indeed, after opening the packaging, the Internet user would have had the unpleasant surprise of finding two sets of metal weights, rather than the monstrous RTX 4090. These metal blocks would presumably weigh quite similar to the graphics card, which, as we recall, is the largest built by Nvidia to date in this segment.

Dissatisfied customer cannot call customer service

Unfortunately for the customer, the site on which he ordered the graphics card would simply have done everything not to answer his questions. ” Newegg seems to have locked my account instead of responding “. While it’s hard to say why Newegg allegedly locked his account since he didn’t share this information, it is not the first time that the famous online retailer has faced this problem.

The player also said he took pictures of the box before opening it, thinking he might need to complain to Newegg about the poor packaging. In effect, the corners of the box appear to have been damaged during delivery. When unpacking the graphics card, noises from inside the box could also be heard, probably when the two blocks of metal collided.

While waiting to learn more about this story, and especially if the retailer is indeed responsible for this problem, we remind you that scalpers are already reselling graphics cards for twice as much on the web. Given the shortage and other supply problems, graphics cards are therefore not immune to theft of any kind, including during delivery.
