Hisense reveals the technologies behind its new processor for 8K TVs

During the last edition of the Consumer Electronic Show, Hisense presented its first 8K processor for televisions. We talk about Hisense 8K AIa chip that supports advanced image processing functions.

Now through the 8K Association We have known more details of how the 8K processor for Smart TV that Hisense has presented works. Let’s see all the details that this Hisense 8K AI hides. A SoC that will debut the Hisense U9 television although it will reach other models.

Features Hisense 8K

For starters, this processor is capable of offering 7168 points for 3D LUT color management and 729 points for 3D LUT RGB management. On the other hand, the SoC supports 26,880 zones of control.

Manufactured on a 22nm process node, it has a dual CPU and an NPU (Neural Processing Unit) capable of reaching 1.2 Tflops, supporting 12 bits.

Under the name of Hi-View HV8107this new processor has the latest technologies to offer a user experience beyond any doubt, including VRR support and the ability to play content in 8K at 120 Hz. As indicated by Wood, director of R&D at Hisense, this processor offers this ability to play 8K at 120 frames per second via MEMC, which is responsible for estimating and compensating for movement.

Processor for 8K TVs

We see one of the most important elements of this processor for Smart TV 8K in its NPU, which hides 576 neural networks to offer the most complete artificial intelligence. To begin with, through a system deep learning or machine learning it has inside it a register of objects or scenes that help to improve the resolution. A very interesting element when watching movies or sports as it improves the quality of the image.

On the other hand 3D SR and 2D SR (Super-Resolution) are crucial for 8K TVs due to the increase of resolution necessary in a team of these characteristics. According to Wood, SR2D is able to process the frames avoiding annoying flickering, in addition to improving the texture and definition of the image.

FIR/IIR 3D NR refers to two different noise reduction techniques. FIR mode handles UHD content, while IIR handles lower resolution content. This improves still and moving images.

What’s more, this Hisense 8K AI processor will debut on Hisense and Toshiba televisions in 2022, but the signature indicates that this chip can be used in professional video monitors to achieve better results. Therefore, the Chinese giant will not lack options to use this chip in all types of devices.

As you may have verified, the Hisense’s new 8K processor It offers more than enough technical characteristics to more than fulfill its mission: to offer performance that lives up to expectations. We will have to see if other manufacturers are interested in this processor from the Asian giant, because it looks very good.
