iOS 16.4 is now available, these are its news

The wait is over, and although many expected this to happen tomorrow, iOS 16.4 is now available for all iPhone users who want to update. Well, for all users of iPhones compatible with this update, which are the same ones that were able to make the leap to iOS 16 at the time. Later we will remember which models are those that, today, can still be updated.

I say that the debut was expected to take place tomorrow because it would have made sense for its launch to occur hand in hand with the arrival of Apple Music Classical, the long-awaited Apple Music app dedicated exclusively to classical music and that was promised by the company. when the Primephonic purchase occurred, about a year and a half ago, and which according to the original plans should have been released sometime in 2022. However, if iOS 16.4 is necessary to use Apple Music Classical, but the app is download from the App Store, i.e. not included in the operating system, it makes sense that they moved up the release of iOS 16.4 by a day so that tomorrow, when users download Classical, they can start using it immediately.

All this is speculation, of course, but what we do know is what news comes from iOS 16.4. We already anticipated the most important ones a few weeks ago, and now, along with the update itself, Apple has also published a complete list with what we will find in what will be one of the last major updates to iOS 16.

iOS 16.4 is now available, these are its news

This is the complete list, according to what Apple tells us on that page:

  • 21 new emoji including animals, hand gestures and objects are now available in the emoji keyboard.
  • Notifications for web apps added to home screen.
  • Voice isolation for cellular calls prioritizes your voice and blocks out ambient noise around you.
  • The Duplicate album in Photos extends support for detecting duplicate photos and videos in a shared iCloud Photo Library.
  • VoiceOver support for maps in the Weather app.
  • Accessibility settings to automatically dim the video when light flashes or strobe effects are detected.
  • Fixes an issue where child purchase requests may not appear on the parent’s device.
  • Fixes issues where Matter-enabled thermostats might become unresponsive when linked to Apple Home
  • Crash detection optimizations on iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models

The most striking thing, however, is that there are two important aspects of this update that, for some reason, Apple has not listed. They are the following:

  • The Home app brings back the new HomeKit architecture, which debuted previously but turned out to malfunction, forcing Apple to revert the change until the issues are fixed.
  • It makes it much easier to manage the installation of beta versions on the devices.

And we remember which iPhone models are those that can be updated to iOS 16.4 that, as I indicated before, are the ones that can use iOS 16:

  • iPhone SE 2
  • iPhone SE 3
  • iPhone 8 and 8 Plus
  • iPhone X
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone 11 (all models)
  • iPhone 12 (all models)
  • iPhone 13 (all models)
  • iPhone 14 (all models)
