La Paz Hospital is committed to the circular economy with its printing equipment

The La Paz University Hospital is committed to the circular economy for its printing equipment, hand in hand with Canon. The official presentation was attended by Cristina Apariciogeneral director of Circular Economy of the Ministry of Environment, Housing and Agriculture of the Community of Madrid; Rafael Perez-Santamarinamanaging director of La Paz; Javier Taberneropresident of Canon in Spain and Portugal; Toru Mitamura, president of Canon’s Giessen factory, Germany, specializing in remanufacturing and alice gatesDirector of Peace Management.

During the visit, they were able to meet Canon’s different sustainable printing equipment that the hospital has. It is a total of 14 remanufactured Canon equipment, of the 83 that the center has, which represent a saving of more than 9 tons of CO2 and 2,250 kilos of plastic.

These remanufactured printers, under the name EQ80, are produced in the German factory of the multinational in Giessen. They are equipment that use 80% by weight of the existing components, contributing to the circular economy. Furthermore, through the remanufacturing, CO2 emissions derived from various aspects of manufacturing are reduced by up to 80%. Unlike refurbished or pre-owned products, these computers undergo a tear-down and rebuild process to deliver equipment with the same quality, warranty, durability, and performance as original equipment, but with a low environmental impact.

Quality and sustainability guarantee

The inclusion of equipment with these characteristics makes it possible to work with high-quality equipment, adapted to the hospital needswith the same guarantees as a newly manufactured equipment.

From the Hospital they show interest in remanufacturing and sustainability, as Alicia Portas, Director of Peace Management, assures, “At Hospital La Paz we are constantly evolving, we work on different initiatives in terms of sustainability and social responsibility because we want to be a reference in the environmental field, just as we are already in the healthcare field. We thank Canon for its commitment to remanufacturing and for bringing technological solutions to the market that allow us to move towards the circular economy.”

For her part, Cristina Aparicio, General Director of Circular Economy of the Ministry of the Environment, Agriculture and Housing of the Community of Madrid, also highlighted the importance of investing in eco-design and remanufacturing as a solution to the circular economy: “It is essential to move towards a society in which the reuse, offering a second life to products; examples like the ones we can see today in the collaboration between Hospital La Paz and Canon show that remanufacturing goes hand in hand with quality and technology”.

Javier Tabernero, president of Canon in Spain and Portugal, has affirmed “From Canon we are very proud to put our effort and help such important institutions for all citizens, such as Hospital La Paz, to advance in its comprehensive sustainability plans. We hope that our relationship will continue to grow in the coming months, since remanufacturing is a production modality that contributes to the achievement of the SDGs while meeting the quality needs that customers demand.”
