The logistics sector closed the previous year with record investment and hiring figures. According to the latest data, it managed to overcome the million affiliates to Social Security during the past year. More specifically, 1,201,209 new contracts were signed, representing an annual growth of 4.32%. With these figures, logistics closed 2022 accumulating under its umbrella 5.3% of total employment, the sector being most relevant for employment growth in Spain. Although a slowdown in employment was detected in December, the trend remains positive, forecasting more moderate growth, according to experts at ProEquity, a leading real estate logistics consultant.
Looking to 2023, a slowdown in economic growth is expected, which will also affect the employability of this sector. However, experts anticipate that its evolution will be above average compared to other sectorsonce again being one of the markets with the highest employability in Spain.
The same positive trend predicts the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, which expects to generate more than 310,000 jobs. From ProEquity, they defend that this provision represents a great commitment to the sector, trusting in its ability to improve and develop, which allows it to be optimistic with a view to the billing and contracting figures in this new year.

E-commerce as a hiring engine in the logistics sector
It is a fact that electronic commerce continues to grow, not only as an independent sector, but also as a transversal activity to other activities. During the second half of last year, e-commerce reached its all-time highwith a turnover of 18,190 million euros.
For logistics, e-commerce represents a cornerstone on which to support its growth and that of its employability. Taking into account that this activity accounted for between 15% and 20% of contracting in the logistics sector during 2022, ProEquity experts expect this activity to continue to be a strong boost for employability In this new year.
The sector accumulated more than 2,300 million euros of investment volume in 2022. In this sense, large capitals such as Madrid and Barcelona were market leaders, absorbing around 1.3 million and 760,000 square meters respectively. These data offer a positive view of the positioning of the logistics sector, being one of the most attractive for foreign investment. within the Spanish real estate market.
In this way, a growth of the activity is detected that, more and more, is dispersed throughout the national territory, promoting itself in provinces such as Malaga, Seville or Zaragoza.
