Messages of 4,000 characters arrive on Twitter… Blue

It has been known for a long time that one of Elon Musk’s plans for Twitter was to end the 280-character limitation by message. Specifically, he has spoken on several occasions about raising the size limit to no less than 4,000 characters per message, thus ending, definitively, what for many has always been the main hallmark of this social network.

In this regard we must remember that during its early years the limit was 140 characters, for compatibility with SMS messages (yes, it has been so long), and that it was not until September 2017 that said limit was multiplied by two, giving way to the 280 characters that can be used today. Additionally, during the first years Twitter did not allow images to be inserted in tweets, it did not have an address shortener… in short, it was necessary to be much more specific than it is today.

It was somewhat strange that, several months after Elon Musk took control of Twitter, a measure so demanded by many users (although also reviled by others, it must be said) had not given signs of life on the network. social. However, as we already anticipated at the beginning of the year, the arrival of this novelty was scheduled for the beginning of February. And now the wait is finally over since, as we can read in this official tweet, Twitter now allows you to post messages of up to 4,000 characters. Of course, with an important limitation, these large tweets They can only be published by Twitter Blue subscribers.

Since he took charge of the social network, one of Elon Musk’s main objectives (if not the only one) has been to try to improve Twitter accounts and, for this purpose, he has decided to concentrate on Twitter Blue, his model of subscription, many of the advantages that are most desired by many users, such as the verified account symbol, which has given rise to much talk since it was no longer used to indicate accounts of well-known personalities and companies.

Going back to the 4,000-character messages, something that many users of the social network will appreciate is that these will not be displayed in full on the users timeline, that is, if any of the accounts you follow publishes a large tweet, what you will initially see will be the first 280 characters of it and, at the bottom, a link to click on to be able to read, if you wish. , the rest of the message. This point, in particular, seems to me a great success because, otherwise, the concatenation of several long messages consecutively in my timeline would undoubtedly discourage me from accessing Twitter again for a while.
