Microsoft ends support for Surface Pro 6

The Redmond giant has confirmed that today is the end of official support for Surface Pro 6, which means that this well-known two-in-one from Microsoft reaches the end of its life cycle, although only partially, because it is a team that it is still capable of offering more than acceptable performance, and it is Fully compatible with Windows 11.

In fact, the latter is curious and interesting, since the Surface Pro 6 is the oldest device in its family compatible with Windows 11, since it is configured with Intel Core Kaby Lake R processors, specifically it uses the Intel Core i5-8250U and Core i7-8650U, depending on the model.

The negative note is that this device was also sold in a configuration with 4 GB of RAM and Core m3-7Y30, and this version is not compatible with Windows 11. Despite everything, it would be possible to force the installation of Windows 11 with that version, but I directly recommend that you do not do it, because Windows 11 does not work well with such a small amount of RAM, and the user experience that you will have will be very poor.

The end of support for Surface Pro 6 does not imply the end of the life cycle of this equipment, but it means that it will stop receiving firmware updates and specific drivers from Microsoft, but will continue to be supported through official updates to Windows 10 and Windows 11and we will always have the possibility of installing compatible third-party drivers.

This means that you can rest easy if you have a Surface Pro 6 and you are happy with the performance it offers you, it is still alive and this is not going to change in the short or medium term. Think that Windows 10 support won’t end until October 2025, and Windows 11 will live for many more years.
