Microsoft Gaming boss shows off ‘Xbox Keystone’ streaming console

Xbox Keystone is the code name for a new device that Microsoft is reportedly developing to complement its gaming ecosystem. Referenced on the internet over two years ago, we now have a “first look” from the most official source possible.

It turns out that Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming and head of Xbox, Has published a message on Twitter to congratulate Bethesda Game Studios on the 25th anniversary of their post-apocalyptic role-playing video game series, Fallout.

Spencer showed a bookcase where you can see a statue of Vault Boy and other memorabilia from the Bethesda saga. So far everything normal, but looking carefully, at the top and next to an Xbox controller you can see a small white box which points to the Xbox Keystone because Microsoft hasn’t released anything like it to date.

These great executives do not give ‘stitch without thread’ and it is unlikely that it was a mistake, but who knows. It can also be a chassis of any prototype. Or it could be the starting signal for the marketing campaign that Microsoft would surely carry out before the launch of a new console.

Or to be more precise, a streaming device, since it would be a smaller and much cheaper alternative to conventional consoles and gaming PCs. It would be integrated by default with Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming and could also access streaming content services such as Netflix, Disney + or HBO, which would make it more attractive to casual players looking for something more complete.

Like other similar devices, simply it would be connected by an HDMI port to a television to work. We assume that it would include an Ethernet port and some additional USB, in addition to Wi-Fi. Its internal hardware is not known, nor is it known if it would include a dedicated controller in addition to supporting the current Xbox and third-party controllers.

It must be said that Microsoft has launched the Xbox TV application for Samsung televisions and monitors that allows access to the Xbox Cloud Gaming ecosystem, but there is nothing better than dedicated hardware and a device like the one in question could connect to any television or monitor and add more features.

Is the Xbox Keystone on the launch ramp? No one knows, but Phil Spencer’s tweet has caused quite a stir. We will see.
