Microsoft Teams will receive major performance improvements

The Redmond giant is working on a deep overhaul of Microsoft Teams that will greatly improve performance, and that will reduce the consumption of resources in its version for laptops and PC. According to the source of the news, the company has already begun testing this new version, and its general rollout is expected to begin sometime between the end of March and April.

Internally, this new version, which has been built from scratch, is known as Microsoft Teams 2.0, and it is said that will reduce memory consumption by 50%. It will also have a lower CPU consumption, which will make it work better on less powerful computers. This could make a significant difference in low-end PCs and laptops, such as those configured with 4GB of RAM and Intel Atom, Intel Celeron, and AMD Athlon processors.

On the other hand, this lower consumption of resources should also have a positive impact on battery consumption and laptop autonomy. The new version of Microsoft Teams goes from using Electron to being based on Webview2 technology. The Redmond giant also started using React, which is a Javascript library that will offer significant improvements to the Microsoft Teams user interface, although these will be coming in the coming months.

In practice, in addition to this lower consumption of resources and this improvement in the level of autonomy, these performance improvements in Microsoft Team should translate into a much smoother experience when we work with said application, in less waiting times and in a more acceptable performance on computers with very modest hardware configurations. Microsoft is expected to release a test version in March, so the final version should arrive soon after.
