Many of us are users who have adopted, for better or for worse, Google services both for manage mail such as calendar, contacts… Any Google service, it works perfectly with Chrome, but not with the rest of the browsers (and I would say on purpose).

If you work with Gmail, but you don’t like accessing it through a browser, the solution is to use Mail. However, Apple seems to you’re not paying any attention to the Mail app and as proof of this we can see the few features it offers. The solution goes through the application mimestream.

Mimestream is a mail manager that only works with Google accounts. Behind this app is Neil Jhaveri, a former Apple employee who spent 7 years at the company working on the Mail and Notes app for macOS.

This application is completely native to macOS, it is written in Swift, and leverages the Gmail API instead of the IMAP protocol to offer many of Gmail’s specific features like categorized inboxes, multiple accounts, label management, powerful search, and keyboard shortcuts.

Also, this optimized for Apple M1 processorsthe design is very similar to the one offered by the web version, so there is no learning curve to get hold of this application.

Although the application still is in beta phaseI haven’t had any performance issues interacting with it for over a week (and I do so quite intensively).

available in beta

If you want try this beta, you can do it through their website from this link. Being a native application, it works much faster than using any browser, including Google Chrome.
