Nokia XR21, a smartphone with the spirit of the Nokia 3310

Bold and intelligent the movement of the launch of this Nokia XR21, because Nokia itself establishes a parallel that will give many goosebumps. Yes, of course, I am referring to the one that you can read in the title of this news, and that is that the company affirms that, When it comes to robustness, this new smartphone plays in the same league as the Nokia 3310., that is, the one that has probably been the most resistant mobile phone (leaving out the rugged models, of course) in history. If you lived through those times and got to know it, you will surely remember that it was common to refer to it as a brick, but not because of its design, mind you, but because of its more than proven resistance to falls, blows and so on.

This, of course, has led to it being one of the most remembered phones, and also one of the most lovedWell, beyond various jokes and nicknames, all of us who use it stopped, for a while, from being afraid of blows and falls. And that is why I say that remembering it is a brave bet, since it means generating very high expectations among users. Now, if they have succeeded, and at least in their specifications it seems so, the proposal is most interesting.

So, let’s start by reviewing the resistance parameters of this Nokia XR21. The first thing is to indicate that is MIL-STD-810H certified for durability drop, dust and water proof, which is undoubtedly a great guarantee in this regard. In addition, and according to internal tests carried out by the company, it is capable of resisting a fall from 1.8 metersstay submerged in water to a depth of 1.5 meters for one hour and withstand the same pressure as a 100-bar water jet (higher than what would come out of fire hoses) at a temperature of 80 degrees Celsius.

To this end, all the materials used in its construction have been chosen based on their resistance. From its die-cast aluminum internal structure to its screen protected with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, Nokia claims to have focused on durability and resistance, as well as the ability to operate in complex thermal environments (it can work in a temperature range of between -20 °C and +55 °C). In addition, to improve reliability, the battery of this Nokia XR21 can provide two full days of autonomy, according to manufacturer data.

When it comes to its specifications, this revision of the Nokia 3310 is a full-fledged smartphone. It has a screen 6.49 inches with FullHD+ resolution (1,080 x 2,400 dots at a 20:9 aspect ratio), with a refresh rate of up to 120 hertza glow of 450 nits, which go up to 550 with a special mode, and the ability to represent about 80% of the NTSC color space, and that can be used with wet hands, and also with gloves. In addition, as indicated above, it is protected with Gorilla Glass Victus.

Already inside this Nokia XR21 we find a Snapdragon 695 5G SoCan integrated with an eight-core CPU (2 x 2.2 gigahertz and 6 x 1.7 gigahertz) an Adreno 619 GPU. It is accompanied by 6 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of storage. The set is powered by a battery 4,800 milliamps with fast charging function at 33 watts. So, as you can see, this Nokia XR21 fits like a glove in the mid-range, although its specifications in terms of resistance are well above the ordinary.

Regarding connectivity, its own SoC already tells us that in its cellular facet it offers 5Gwhich is complemented by WiFi a/b/g/n/ac/ax, Bluetooth 5.1 and geopositioning with the main networks. For its part, we will also find a USB-C port for data, audio and charging. However, if we do not want to use headphones, it also integrates two stereo speakers with OZO reproduction that offer surround sound, and that can scale up to 96 decibels.

The Nokia XR21 camera proposal is not bad either. The main one is made up of two elements, a 64-megapixel main sensor along with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle, accompanied by two LED flashes. As for the front, which is located in a hole in the upper center of the screen, it mounts a 16-megapixel sensor.

The Nokia XR21 is already on sale on the Nokia website, and its price is 599 euro.
