Nvidia ends Q1 with revenue of $8.29 billion; games grow 31%

Nvidia released the company’s balance sheet for the first quarter of 2023, equivalent to the first quarter of this year, ending May 1, 2022.

Revenue recorded in the period was US$ 8.29 billion, equivalent to 46% above the previous year and 8% compared to the immediately previous quarter – which, according to the manufacturer, was a record amount. The company’s outlook for the second fiscal quarter is revenue of $8.10 billion.

Games: Nvidia’s big bet

Among the results disclosed in the balance sheet, the games sector represented one of the company’s main highlights, having registered an increase of 31% in the period and 6% compared to the previous quarter. Revenue totaled $3.62 billion.

The area introduced the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. The GPU was officially launched on the market in March, having been considered one of the best on the market in terms of power.

In addition, the company introduced 15 RTX-optimized titles, which boosted the business. Among the highlights are Dying Light 2, Ghostwire: Tokyo and Shadow Warrior 3.

Data Center and Professional Visualization were also highlighted

Despite games having emerged in the spotlight, the Data Center division (which is part of Nvidia’s Enterprise unit), however, was the main highlight. The business accounted for revenue of US$ 3.75 billion, equivalent to a growth of 83% compared to 2021 and 15% above the previous quarter.

The results were quite satisfactory for the scenario that Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia, considered “macro challenging”.

“The effectiveness of deep learning to automate intelligence is driving companies across industries to embrace Nvidia for AI computing [inteligência Artificial]. Data center has become our biggest platform, even as games hit a record quarter,” he said.

He also complemented the statement, stating that the company is preparing for the launch of new products in several segments, in what he classifies as “the biggest wave of [lançamentos de] new products in our history]: will be GPU, CPU, DPU and robotics processors, scheduled for the second semester.

Finally, two other areas that received an honorable mention during the disclosure and that yielded good results to the company were the Professional and Automotive Visualization divisions.

The former reported first-quarter revenue of $622 million, up 67% from a year ago and 3% down from the previous quarter. In the second, the amount recorded was US$ 138 million – the equivalent of a 10% decrease in relation to the previous year, but a 10% increase in relation to the previous quarter.

“We celebrate this balance with record revenue and with many cases to celebrate also in Latin America. Technology contributes to the expansion of several sectors and we are very grateful to be part of this technological revolution around the world”, emphasized Marcio Aguiar, director of Nvidia’s Enterprise division for Latin America.
