Pixel 6 is unable to distinguish an Adele song from the sound of a toilet flush

Pixel smartphones are able to recognize tracks played nearby with a voice recognition feature, but it doesn’t always seem very reliable, especially when playing songs from Adele.

A user on Reddit recently said that his Pixel 6 Pro confused her toilet flush with Adele’s song Rumor Has It from 2011. He then shared the recording of the sound of his flush so that other users could confirm that Pixel smartphones couldn’t distinguish it from Adele’s song.

Other netizens have also reported that the Now Playing feature of the Pixel 6 indicates that the song “Dream of Arrakis” from the Dune soundtrack was played while they brushed their teeth with an electric toothbrush. A Pixel from another user even stated that he was listening to Barry Manilow’s track ‘Copacabana’ while playing Forza Horizon 5, the racing game that broke all launch records for an Xbox exclusive, while the song is not available on the game.

Google song recognition is not 100% reliable

Google’s “Now Playing” option is a pretty useful feature that lets you recognize music in the background, but as you may have seen, it is not always 100% reliable. Sometimes artificial intelligence has trouble identifying ambient noise with precision and thus offers strange results, to say the least.

For his part, Google Assistant can also recognize the songs being played. Google’s personal assistant sometimes offers better results than other well-known giants in the sector such as Shazam. For now, Google has not officially commented on its speech recognition errors, but could take advantage of its feedback to refine the results that will be offered in the future.

In the meantime, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro suffer from other bigger bugs, despite the arrival of a major update in December. Indeed, Google has confirmed that an issue could prevent users from making calls and texting.
