With the arrival of new big content in Fortnite, Epic Games has revised its technical requirements upwards on PC. From now on, it will be necessary to be equipped with Windows 10 or 11 to start a game. This is not a surprise, the studio having warned several months ago already.
Fortnite is hosting major content today: chapter 4 season 2. This includes a brand new city, Mega City, as well as a collaboration with the manga Attack on Titan. It is possible to move around in this new play area using suspended ropes or motorbikes, which makes the fights very nervous.
This update forces Epic Games to revise the technical requirements for its baby. From now on, it is impossible to play it if you are not on Windows 10 or Windows 11.
Fortnite requires players to have Windows 10
As the game’s official Twitter account points out, you now need a PC with Windows 10 or 11 to enjoy Fortnite. Windows 7 and 8 are no longer supported.
As previously announced, starting with Battle Royale Chapter 4 Season 2, players will be required to use Windows 10 or higher in order to continue playing Fortnite natively on PC in an officially supported manner. It is true that the proportion of players to still be on these OS must be minimal. However, Fortnite has the particularity of being very little greedy and it is easy to throw it on an old cuckoo clock. This will no longer be the case. For players who are unable to upgrade their OS, Epic Games simply advises to go through the GeForce Now servicewhich is still available to him via browser.

This new restriction is not a surprise. Last December, with the arrival of the Unreal Engine 5 on the game (Chapter 4, season 1), Epic Games warned about the technical recommendations to be adopted. The few players concerned therefore do not find themselves with their beaks in the water.
Windows 7 (2009) and Windows 8 (2012) are no longer young and are no longer followed by Microsoft today. Windows 8.1, for example, saw the end of its support at the beginning of 2023. If you are still on these old OS, maybe it’s time for a change. Of course, other versions of Fortnite (on consoles and mobiles) are not affected by this announcement.
