To maintain a good temperature at home in the summer months, when it is hotter, a great option is to have an air conditioner. However, this is an economic investment. On the one hand, there is the device itself, but also the energy cost that it will have each month. If we do not use it correctly, that consumption can skyrocket and certain measures should be taken to spend less on the bill. In this article we are going to talk about the advantages of a portable air conditioning. Can you help save light?

As you can deduce from the name, you can take a portable air conditioner anywhere in the house. Instead of being fixed in one place, you can put it where you are most interested in each case. It is an alternative to traditional air conditioning, which will also require installation.

Therefore, the first advantage that we can name is that we can put where we want. You may want to have it in one room during the day and then in another at night, for example. It is easy to move and it will not need a difficult installation, so we can also save money there.

Another advantage may be price. They are cheaper than the traditional ones. However, the range of prices is quite wide and you can find models from more or less €160-200, up to more than 600 or 700. Everything will depend on the quality and characteristics of that particular device.

It should also be mentioned that it doesn’t bind us so much. What does this mean? Maybe you are renting, you want to buy an air conditioner but then it is a hassle if you are going to leave the house or even the installation itself. A portable air conditioner is more flexible in this sense and you will be able to use it, practically always, in another place.

Now, not everything is positive. One disadvantage is that not that small or portable as it may seem. It is a device that will take up space, so it is not ideal for a small home or a room that does not have enough free space. You will have to organize yourself well. A traditional air conditioner can be less annoying in this sense, since you put the split on the wall, above.

Another disadvantage is that it makes quite a lot of noise. Although the most current models have improved in this regard, it is still an appliance that will be annoying if you are delicate with noise. It is not the most advisable in this sense. For example, sleeping could become a problem.

In addition, they will be more limited to cool a large room or stay. If you need it for a specific site that is not very spacious, then no problem. On the other hand, if you want it to cool something much larger, then it is the most ideal.

Energy consumption

But if we go into one of the most important points, do you consume a lot of electricity a portable air conditioner? The truth is that yes. What’s more, if we compare it with the most modern common air conditioners, that consumption can be much higher. Depending on the model, you will spend between 1000 and 2000 Wh. The problem is that they are less efficient than normal air conditioners. It will not keep the heat the same and that will mean that consumption does not drop as much as the temperature is more pleasant.

Although it may seem that it consumes less than a conventional one due to the fact that it is portable, the truth is that it does not. Therefore, if your intention to buy this type of device is simply to save energy, our advice is that you do not. A more efficient conventional air, of the inverter type, is better.

In short, as you can see there are certain advantages and disadvantages when using a portable air conditioner. It is true that it is more manageable and you will be able to use it in different places, but you should also take into account that they take up space, make noise and are not as efficient as we might think.
