Samsung bans its employees from using generative AI tools

A few weeks ago, several engineers from samsung leaked sensitive company source code after uploading it to ChatGPT. And to avoid this, according to Bloomberg, the group’s management has decided to cut their losses. For it has prohibited its employees from using ChatGPT and any type of generative AI tool from now on, for security reasons.

Samsung has already notified the workers of its main divisions of this new measure, which affects Google Bard, and even the Bing browser. The decision has been made based on the concerns of Samsung managers that since the data used by Artificial Intelligence platforms is stored on external servers, it could be leaked to third parties. Also because these data offer practically no possibility of erasing them.

In the message in which employees have been notified of the ban, Samsung notes that “Interest in generative AI platforms, such as ChatGPT, has grown both internally and externally. And while this interest is focused on the usefulness and efficiency of these platforms, there is also growing concern about the security risks posed by Generative Artificial Intelligence.«.

The ban, yes, is not final, but according to Samsung it will only be in effect for a while. Specifically while reviewing «security measures to generate a safe environment for the safe use of generative AI for the improvement of employee productivity and efficiency. However, until these measures are in place, we are temporarily restricting the use of generative AI«.

These new rules prohibit the use of these AI systems on all computers, tablets and smartphones provided by Samsung to its workers. But also to laptops and desktop computers, tablets and mobile phones that the company has not given them and that are being used in their internal network.
