Samsung Galaxy S23: models, specifications and prices

Finally the day has come. After months of waiting, and leaks, Samsung has officially presented the Samsung Galaxy S23the new generation of its top-of-the-range smartphones, with which the Korean technology company remains, for many, as the main benchmark for high-end Android and, consequently, also as the main rival of Apple’s iPhones.

This is a confrontation in which, without a doubt, the one who wins are the users or, to be more exact, the users who are willing to make a more than considerable financial outlay to get a top of the range. The most staunch fans of both brands will defend that “theirs” is much better than “the other”, but beyond these extreme positions, the truth is that both technological companies strive to give the best of themselves with each generation.

In these times the main battlefield seems to have been in the photography and video recording functions, to the point that in Unpacked 2023, which has lasted an hour, about half of the event has been dedicated to glossing the virtues of the Samsung Galaxy S23 in this regard, while listing some of the technical specifications of the mobiles It has been resolved in a matter of seconds. A matter of priorities, no doubt.

Be that as it may, here we already have the new generation, so let’s see what they offer us. Of course, unlike what we have seen in the event, We will start with the technical specifications of the new Samsung Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra.

This is the raw data, now let’s go over it in detail.

Samsung Galaxy S23: models, specifications and prices

Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23+

Let’s start with the S23 and S23+ which, as you can see in the specifications, have more coincident than divergent points. The two most important differences are the size of their screens, 6.1 and 6.6 inches respectively, but with similar resolutions and features, and the capacity of their batteries. And well, of course, also its dimensions and, yes, one less option in terms of storage capacity. Now we will see those options.

Regarding the screens, 6.1 and 6.6 inches, in both cases they are built from a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel which provides a Full HD+ resolution (2,340 x 1,080 dots with 21:9 aspect ratio) and a dynamic refresh rate that can go from 48 to 120 hertz. In addition, as we told you a few days ago, they are protected with the new generation of Corning protectors, Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Inside, and as we also told you about at the time, this new generation is powered by a custom variant of Qualcomm’s top-of-the-range SoC, called Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy. The differences with respect to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that governs other devices are yet to be seen, but both Samsung and Qualcomm have stated that there are, “there are”. In both models we will find 8 gigabytes of RAM and 128 or 256 in the Samsung Galaxy S23, which become 256 or 512 gigabytes in the S23+.

In terms of connectivity, neither more nor less than what can be expected from a top of the range, that is, the latest generation in all possible aspects. Thus, if we get hold of any of them we will have 5G, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, to which we add NFC and positioning, as well as UWB (Ultra WideBand) in the Galaxy S23+. For charging, data and headphone connection we find, how could it be otherwise, a USB-C connector.

We did not find any difference between the two models in the photographic section. Its main chamber is made up of three elements, a 50-megapixel wide-angle (FOV 85˚) f/1.8, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide (FOV 120˚) with f/2.2 number, and a 3x-zoom (FOV 36˚) 10-megapixel telephoto lens with f/number 2.4. As for the front, which we will find in a perforation in the upper center of the screen, we find an angle (FOV 80˚) of 12 megapixels with number f / 2.2.

The other big difference between the two devices, as I indicated previously, is found in their batteries. The Samsung Galaxy S23 has one of 3,900 milliamps with 25-watt fast charge function. For its part, the S23+ jumps to the 4,700 milliamps and, in this case, Samsung recommends the fast charger of 45 watts.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 and Samsung Galaxy S23 will arrive in Spain in four configurations (two for the S23 and another two for the S23+) and can already be reserved on the Samsung website, these are their prices, depending on the model and storage capacity:

  • Galaxy S23 5G 128GB: 959 euros.
  • Galaxy S23 5G 256GB: 1,019 euros.
  • Galaxy S23+ 5G 256GB: 1,209 euros.
  • Galaxy S23+ 5G 512GB: 1,329 euros.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

We are now going with the absolute top of the range of this new generation, the expected S23 Ultra, a phone with technical specifications that will not leave you indifferent and that will be able to carry out any task, however demanding it may be, with the greatest of looseness Not in vain, although it shares some elements (such as the SoC) with its “small” brothers, there are other aspects of it that make it clear the reason why the Ultra is above everything else.

Let’s start with your 6.8-inch screen (0.2 inches more than the S23+), also built with a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel but, in this case, it has QHD+ resolution (3,080 x 1,440 dots in a 21:9 aspect resolution). It also has a dynamic refresh rate, but in this case with a wider range, which goes from one to 120 hertz. How could it be otherwise, it is also protected from bumps, falls, scratches and more with Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Inside, as I indicated before, we find the same integrated as in his generation companions, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, which we are looking forward to seeing in operation. It can be accompanied by 8 or 12 gigabytes of RAM, and 256 or 512 gigabytes or one terabyte, for those who need the maximum capacity. The models available in the Spanish market are 8GB+256GB, 12GB+512GB and 12GB+1TB.

We found no differences when analyzing the connectivity options of this Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, in which we will have 5G, WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, NFC and UWB (Ultra Wide Band). For everything that requires a cable, there we have the ineffable USB-C port that is worth the same for a tear as for a tear, with excellent results in all cases. It is not surprising at all that it has been adopted by the entire industry (except Apple, of course) as the standard.

Samsung Galaxy S23: models, specifications and prices

We now come to the photographic section, in which the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra once again makes a difference with respect to its generation colleagues. Its main camera consists of four lenses among which stands out the long-awaited debut of the ISOCELL HP2, a sensor that can reach 200 megapixels, although by default it will shoot at 12 megapixels (this is something that we can adjust to our preferences). It is accompanied by a wide angle lens (FOV 85˚) with number f/1.7. The other three elements are a 12-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide (FOV 120˚) and two 12-megapixel optical zoom telephoto lenses, one 3x (FOV 36˚) f/2.4 and the other 10x (FOV 11 ˚), yes, somewhat less bright, since it has a number f / 4.9. The review of its cameras is completed with the front, an angular (FOV 80˚) of 12 megapixels with number f / 2.2.

As you can well imagine, such a beast must have a good appetite, so Samsung has chosen to mount a generous battery of 5,000 milliamps with 45-watt fast charge and wireless charging by induction of 15 watts. According to Samsung data, it is possible to reach a 65% charge in about 30 minutes with a 45-watt adapter and a 5-amp USB-C cable.

Like its generation companions, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra can now be reserved on the Samsung website. These are the prices for the models that will reach the Spanish market:

  • Galaxy S23 Ultra 5G 8GB/256GB: 1,409 euros.
  • Galaxy S23 Ultra 5G 12GB/512GB: 1,589 euros.
  • Galaxy S23 Ultra 5G 12GB/1TB: 1,829 euros.
