The semiconductor sales they arrived at $50.6 billion in March, an amount that represents a rise of 1.1% year-on-year, according to data from the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). Altogether, in the trimesterrevenue from sales of semiconductors was 151.7 billion dollars, a figure that marks a slight decrease compared to the previous one, when they were 0.5% higher, but which still marks a 23% year-over-year increase.
The region in which these sales registered the most increased between January and March 2022 compared to the same period in 2021 was the American region, with a year-on-year increase of 40.1%. They were followed by Europe, with an improvement of 25.7%; Japan, where they rose 20.4%; Asia-Pacific and Others, with a 17.9% improvement; and China, a country where they rose by 17.3%.
Regarding how these sales are distributed, according to the most recent IC Insights report, the ten main companies in the sector have 57% of the total market share, and in the first three months of the year they were distributed among the 10 major sellers of semiconductors, which in total entered 614.6 billion dollars in 2021.
Five of those 10 sales leaders, excluding those that are only manufacturers, were suppliers without factories. Two more than in 2019. In 2008 there was only one company without factories on this list, and in 2000 there were none without manufacturing facilities of their own.
In 2021, two new manufacturers entered this list, according to IC Insights: MediaTek Y amd. The first increased its sales no less than 61% in the year, which has made it rise three places on the list, moving from position 11 to eighth. AMD had an even bigger sales increase: 68%, going from 14th to 10th place. The rest of the companies that make up the list are, in this order, the following: Samsung, Intel, S.K. Hynix, Micron, Qualcomm, Nvidia, broadcom Y YOU. Sales of all exceeded 16.4 billion dollars in 2021.
